The "locks" are just regular hydraulic slave cylinders. So they push the rod out when there is pressure.

Inside the transaxle they push on levers which compress clutch packs and lock up either differential in proportion to the pressure applied.

thats what I had thought - but the spring is behind the rod - already pushing it out - so is there something in the diff that is pushing back on the rod - that is then overwhelmed by the hydrualic pressure when the diff lock engages?

The spring inside the slave is probably just to take up any slack, although they do run with a bit of preload hydraulic pressure (2-3bar iirc) on the clutch packs which will exceed that spring's force.

Colin, a friend of mine has emailed several times regarding buying some but no reply, are you still offering them?
Thanks.

I bought a kit from Colin a couple of months ago. I had better response from PM'ing than email.

I tried to order them off his websites, but could not get it set up to ship to the US.

Ignore the above.

Just looked at it again and it looks like it can be ordered on website. Might get a set as backup.

Kinda glad I have a spare set. I'm sure he's still selling them.

I have just replaced mine while engine was out. Went ahead and ordered a backup set just in case and for the future. These type parts are what worry me a little about availability long term. I have no plans to ever sell my car so I like to have backups on parts that may become NLA.

I had bought 2 kits a while back. I thought I had ordered 1 kit for each lock. During a recent clutch work we noticed the longitudinal lock was leaking. Thought it was time to rebuild both locks, but the kits looked identical. We rebuilt the long. lock and didn't crack the lateral lack.

Do both locks use the same rebuild kit?

Thanks,

Dan

Yes Dan, both cylinders use identical seal kits, hence the group buy offer was for a pair of kits which is one car set.

We like to keep things simple, so the group buy price is for one car, i.e. two identical seal kits that fit both the lateral and longitudinal lock cylinders.
