Drip Rail/Rain Gutter Delete...
#16
I installed these gutter inserts on my track car. I forgot who sells them but I was surprised how much they helped at higher speeds and cross winds.
I was checking out the original Ruf Yellowbird the other day. The same car that was used in the land speed run and IMO it looked wrong without the rain gutters although that car has a lot of strange designs that didn't make sense to me. I couldn't understand why they went through all the trouble to shave and rework the rain gutters and still leave the indent and air intake on the front hood?

I visited RUF in Pfaffenhausen last October and there was a black 964 Carrera 2 there that had shaved gutters. I thought it looked super hot. I'll post pics this weekend.
The Yellowbird and CTR2 (993) that were present also had shaved gutters.
If I ever drop big money on a down-to-the-metal respray on my car, I'm definitely going to consider shaving them.

The shaved rain gutters are definitely a Ruf feature and have been since the original CTR (though Ruf weren't the originators - Porsche did this going back to the 935). They also produce the inserts shown above for cars that are keeping their gutters.
I believe you can still buy them from Ruf.

Also, did you notice much difference with water ingress when it's raining?

No issue with water and they do help with cross winds at high speeds.

you cut out 3" sections and weld the roof/side together. then cut the rest out and weld it. the drip rail actually holds the 2 panels together, so if you cut it all at once the car will literally fall apart. Here is a pic of mine last month at the body shop. The rails were gone when I got the car, but we had to do some work to smooth out the welds.
