I noticed today that the outer pulley half for the fan belt pullet was cracked. and about to destroy the belt.
Now I am looking at all the usual parts websites and it seems that there was a running change in pulley sizes from early 964's to older and there are different pulley halves for manual and tip cars. ARGH!
So does anyone know what the part# would be for me for a '91 C2 Manual?
Thanks
Mike B

Do you have factory Porsche part catalog for the 964. You can download it from Porsche here:

Thanks for the help Ricardo. I did look at the parts catalog and the confusion is that the part has been superseded by other parts and I'm not 100% sure which one I should get.

You need 964 106 511 02 which is for the Carrera 2 & 4 manual and tip. Qty 2 in the parts catalog as the same part is used for the inside and outside pulley hafl.

I found this part on AutoAtlanta 930-106-510-01
Doing a search for 964.106.511.02 on Pelican shows that it is for a 993/993 turbo. You think these are compatible?

Yes I did, thanks for asking. I was able to get Porsche of Southampton to order the pulley halves for a very good price and they will arrive on Saturday! I also ordered the 3 lock nuts because I think 1 of them was losing its grip on the threads.
I'm a big fan of Pelican and although I didn't order this part you, lately I've bought everything I need for a steering rack refresh as well as oil filters and a low tone horn.
I've given up saying to myself "finally, this is the year I won't be spending much money on my Porsche"

The job is complete and the car is back on the road. It wasn't without its problems but now I feel the belts are installed better than before!
When I was putting the new fan pulley halves in I only used 2 shims because that is how it was previously installed. When I tightened down the 10mm locknuts I managed to break one of the fan studs down inside the fan itself!?!?! I was initially beating myself up for this epically stupid move but after researching it here it seems that broken fan studs are not that uncommon. I have a set of Craftsman bolt extractors (that I originally bought to remove a broken motor mount bolt when I was installing 993 mounts a few years ago) but the ends were too big to fit inside the stud opening in the fan. I was able to grind off the edges and get it to fit. Then I used several drill extensions and fed it through the hole of the trunk latch and drill out the broken stud.
I went to Sears and bought M6 allen bolts of the correct length. They were the 12.8 strength rating so I believe this is OK. Then I took my time and fit the belt using 4 shims (That is all that came with the car but it turned out to be the perfect amount). Cranking down the allen bolts gave me much more feel and control than the bolt/stud combination so I could easily tell when the pulley was secure. The Krikit says I'm around 30-35 Kgs when the engine is cold. Maybe I could use 1 more shim but I seem to have a nice amount of flex in the belt and it doesn't seem too tight. The alternator belt is around 25 Kgs.
So I think I'm ready for the trek to Watkins this weekend!
Thanks all! I really couldn't own this car without the help of this board and definitely would not enjoy it as much without you all.

There is a TSB which tells you exactly how to do this by using the Kricket tool. That belt tension will tell you exactly how many shims to put in. You start with a guess and then dial it in with the Kricket tool and the TSB as the guide on tension.
