Default 964 Intro/Build Thread

Hello!
So here's my story...
I was looking to upgrade my summer vehicle for some time, and was bitten by the Porsche bug. So i began the necessary researching of different models. I had the help of a good friend, who grew up around them his entire life, steer me in a good direction. I decided I wanted a 964, so the search began. I sold my VW R32 and found a great C4.

I had the joy of picking up my new to me '89 C4 a month ago. Red on black, 85k on it. The car has an intake, muffler delete, chip, and MOMO competition wheel. Everything else is stock, and this is where we begin a mini build.

After seeing Brian Henderson's 964 (https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...her-964-a.html)
I wanted to compliment the shape of the car and get it looking awesome with some suspension and wheels. So after I picked it up, I immediately got into contact with him and ordered my parts up.

Parts List:
1. AH Exclusive/ Rotiform Custom built H&R motorsports coilovers. (Same as on his car now)
2. Custom Built Set of Rotiform wheels (currently being built, dont want to spoil it)

Parts I'm ordering:
1. Engine Carrier re-inforcement
2. Engine Mounts (Any recommendations?)

Future Parts:
1. Half cage
2. Recaro Pole Postions
3. Rennsport quick disconnect hub

I will update this thread with pics and info as I am installing the coilovers this weekend. Anything to look out for?
I would also like to sell/trade the MOMO wheel for a different one.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at this thread, any input/ information is helpful as I am young (21) and want to build this car right.

I've got the same Momo and went with the rouge engeneering quick release. It works great, matches the wheel nicely and the horn still works. Highly recommended.

Nice car!

Most guys use either the Wevo engine mounts, or the oem 964RS ones (which are maybe a hundred bucks more expensive, but still quite reasonable).

Congrats on the car. Was the R32 mk4 or mk5? Anyways does not matter The 964 is a different animal. These cars very exciting. They ride different, smell different. They interact with their owners. I love them. Hence why I sold my 435hp Golf R and picked up 2 911s.

Keep us updated, I want to hear about the AHExclusive H&R Coilovers. I have regular H&Rs on the way, but I am always up to a swap. Which Rotis did you go with?

Good luck, great community here.

Thanks for the warm welcome! It was a MK4 R32, on coilovers and wheels. This 964 is a completely different animal, exactly what I wanted. Sooo much more raw.

I will keep you updated on the coils. They are stiffer, revalved, and go lower than the H&R street performance ones.
Rotiform is building me a set of upconverted BBS RS's from 16" to 18".

It'll be nice to see the car start taking shape once you get to wrenching on it.

I was slightly concerned based off the limmited info on the site, but it is a quality part and came with everything I needed for the install. The lock/unlock engagement is very positive and there is no play.

Like most quick releases, it will bring the wheel closer, but this was welcome for me. I like some leg extension but still want the steering wheel close. The 964 seating position is different however. Give it some thought.

I was able to find a picture. Under most lighting the anodized finishes match a little closer. It's still a better match than a lot f others I've seen.

Welcome, I also came from the VW community, had a stanced mk6. Sounds like you are kind of going with a stance build here as well, I hope you at least give it a chance as a proper road car. Its incredibly capable and amazing to drive. Made me realize how much I missed driving.

Maybe one day I'l see you and we check out those coils.

Nice 964, if the back lights are cracked, I would replace them, that will fresh up the back of the car.

Yes I from the VW community. The car is gonna be set up for a dual purpose, i'll be able to raise the coils up and swap wheels and she can be a track weapon if necessary!
I'm sure we'll cross paths someday. I'll be at H20i down in Ocean, MD in September. Maybe I'll see you there?

Thanks for the link David! Those are on the list as well, but I'm waiting to hear if my friend's dad has a set laying around. He's been collecting parts for years, and has a widebody kit.

Anybody know if it is necessary to install the engine reinforcement with the wevo or 993 mounts? or stiff coilovers?

if you are going to track the car, it's recommended to add the carrier reinforcement
