964 vs 993 3.6 motor
I know this has been discussed at length but i was hoping to get some current opinons. For my 964 backdate build, i have the choice of a motor. I love the idea of hydrolic lifters so i dont need to incur the cost of a valve adjustment every 3,000 miles. Is this enough to go with the 993? This car will be build as a weekend or many even daily driver. The car will see very little track time, if any. What motor is more mod friendly? What's going to keep me smiling for years to come??

Three Wheelin'
A late 993 Varioram is good option as it is more powerful and has more torque than the 964.... If you wish in futur more performance , you may find you need to convert it to solid rockers for a high lift cam
Hope that helps

If the vram is RoW, I agree, if US not so much, the US cars from '96 up are saddled w/ no so user friendly OBD2.

993 engines are a little more maintenance-friendly due to lack of valve adjustments. Lifters, OTOH, aren't cheap when they require replacement and most of the higher-mileage engines will need this sooner than later.
964 engines, while offering less performance, have a much better crankshaft & rods which makes them a better candidate for future modifications.
993 engines offer more initial, out-of-the-box performance, especially the Varioram versions. I'd strongly suggest a '97 or '98 version since those can be chipped much easier (and less $$$$) than the '96 ones. 95's have a socketed chip which is less expensive to replace.
964 engines are very good, especially the '92 & later ones due to the inclusion of head gaskets and a lighter, more efficient intake manifold.
Any of them are great daily drivers and very reliable with good maintenance.
Hope this helps a little,
