Default Price Shopping - Pelican, why bother?

I was just looking around for a 21mm sway bar for my 1990 C4 and once again Pelican has WAY higher prices for their items than anyone else. They listed the 21mm sway bar PN# 964 333 701 07 for $253 and Sonnen Porsche lists it for $153, a hundred dollars less!

So who's got a good reason to shop at Pelican? I want to get the H4 headlight upgrade package with the chrome trim rings that they sell but wonder if they'll be reaming me for those as well...

I just don't get it...

Pelican will sometimes have an OEM manufactured part for way less than the Porsche stamped part.

Case in point :

A/C Expansion valve
Sonnen: $156.32
Pelican 28.50

&

DME Relay:
Sonnen $62
Pelican $28

I buy a lot from Pelican (but not always), AND I always search for better prices or deals.

I buy from pelican even if they are a little more, just to support the forum and all the $ it has saved me. When a part is a lot more I buy it elsewhere.

Okay, it sounds like sometimes they do have better prices. I'll keep them bookmarked! I do like their web presentation and accessibility.

For me it's Sonnen, or AutohausAZ.. Sonnen for OEM, Autohaus for stuff with 3rd party aftermarket. I've only placed one order with Pelican, and it was a bit of a hassle, required photo ID from me for reasons I didn't quite understand because I paid with PayPal, although they did send me jelly beans too

I buy a lot of parts from Pelican and rarely do I find it less expensive at other places, but it does happen. I am completely satisfied with their customer service and fast shipping (CA to GA)

I buy some things from Pelican, but it's good to shop around. I bought a ZF rebuilt steering rack form Vertex for$465.00.It was around $1,000.00, at Pelican.

I shop PParts for non-OEM stuff. They're very reliable, and the PParts forum is an absolutely amazing resource that I don't mind funding.

OEM bits I rarely go anywhere other than Sunset.

I use Pelican a lot and can't complain. Best is to shop arond.

I feel ripped off in most places. Small simple things can cost way too much looking at the actual piece - especially since the technology and R&D has been long written off.

But it doesn't see me moving to another car though.

Like anything else, you gotta do your due diligence if your goal is to minimize cost.

I posted a similar topic some time back, complete w/ my spreadsheet comparing Pelican, Sunset, Suncoast, ECSTuning, Amazon, etc.

While sometimes you can get odds and evens cheaper individually, it's easier to just order from one place. It all depends.
