The motor is attached to the gearbox, so if the motor is all over the place, so is the gearbox. This throws off the geometry of the shift linkages and creates vagueness in the shifting since the relationship between the shifter itself and the selection of gears is not consistent.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Now it is such a pleasure to drive and I expect my arm to not get sore anymore.
My engine mounts are shot and I am about to replace them. Even though it's not my main motivation, shifting to 1st and 2nd is a little hard, so it might improve that too. That's great news.

Glad to hear that it's a world of difference!

Holly cow Ray,
At best I was looking for subjective opinions, but it shows you how incredible this place is, never under estimate the skills or tools RL members have.

I guess it's time for new engine mounts... Taking cues from this thread I'll probably go with the 993 ones.

You definitely did not ask a dumb question. The great thing about Rennlist is that you can ask any question. People won't think it's dumb. It's only dumb if we don't ask something and end up with a disaster because we were too afraid to ask.
Cool. Wish my former Indie would have felt this way.

If I wasn't so over budget on my reseal, I would have bought them instead of the 993 mounts.

I'd love to be part of the cool kid club but I have to watch the budget, I think the 993 ones will be just fine.

LPMM: My mounts looked just like yours, then one day I went to jack up the car from the motor and halfway up in the air, one of them just gave up the ghost and puked out all its hydraulic guts. All this oil just started pouring out to the ground. I was new to 964 ownership at the time, I thought I had broken the friggin' engine case, lol.

Laurent, That's how my mounts looked, too. I decided to replace them with the Wevos but I'm sure the 993s will work fine. The new mounts made a significant difference in the way the car handled.

They were pretty easy to install. Let me know if you need any help.

The WEVO engine mounts are very nice, high-quality pieces - they provide a near-rigid engine mounting system while maintaining a quiet and comfortable ride. Great for street or track!

We carry the WEVO units as well. You can view product information here.

I'm very happy with my Wevo motor mounts. 2 years and no complaints whatsoever.

I am always amazed when I see pristine pictures of members cars or a 964 for sale ad that is really well done....then it's like a scene from a horror movie, original motor mounts ! Uggghhhhhh

These cars are 19-24 years old, your original motor mounts are shot! If not by time, by miles. I have removed motor mounts from 3 964's, all with 50,000 miles, all 3 were in need of replacement.

With the right tools and friend, it's a 20-30 minute job that gives great results and improvement in the car.

Wevo, 993 mounts or RS....replace your old motor mounts !
