Fresh from my failure fitting the oil line next to the oil tank I decided to tackle the Carrera side decal. These are available in Black, Red, Blue, Green & Gold from Type 911 in the UK. GBP 50 per set. I'm sure there are a number of other suppliers.

Before, a plain Jane GP White flank.

First thing is to remove the Sharks fin, then thoroughly clean the area the decal will cover of dirt and wax, using Meths and or wax remover.

Next step is to dry fit the decal. The stated spacing is 50mm above the door bottom, however you could place it lower if you prefer. Use masking tape now to assist with placing later. Also mark the body with a removable grease pencil or other marker where the bottom of the decal sits. Again this is to assist with correct placement when you are fitting the large decal. It will be a real help as the decal is long and moves easily on the wet mix so adjusting one area may put it off place in another.

Spray the body with a mixture of 96% water and 4% dishwashing liquid, then remove the backing off the decal and liberally spray the same mix over it.

Spray the body and decal again, then fit the whole decal as closely as possible to the marks made. When it's very close to the right position do fine adjustments and measure the distance from the doors as an extra check, as if it's not straight you will notice! When sure it's in the correct position, fix the masking tape to the body as an extra hold and gently sponge the decal to ensure there are no large bubbles.

When sponged, leave to dry for 60 to 90 minutes.

When dry, carefully peel the backing off the decal. You may find the thin edges of the smaller parts lift with the paper. I found it helped to pull the backing paper as close as possible to be parallel to the decal, not pulling it at a 90 degree angle. It pays to be methodical and slow. Use a credit card in good light to smooth out any small bubbles. Cut the decal at the door openings, leaving enough on each side to wrap around the edges.. Refit the sharks fin and admire your handiwork.

Nice! I would suggest to paint the wheels(not the outer rim) red to match the stripe.

I had that thought as well. It will have to be DIY, otherwise it would be better to buy more attractive wheels and paint them red.

Very very nice and thank you for the how-to. Where does someone buy these decals and what color do they come in?

Some day I think this car will replace my Turbo 3.6. I'm thinking Replica Speedline types with Red centres. Maybe a ducktail as well. The Techart doesn't do it for me.
