I agree on the conclusion that 0.0 or P means that something is very wrong inside the tacho.
I would like to try to find a cure for this, and would be interested in getting such a failed tachometer for close inspection and possible repair. If anyone have one lying around I would be happy to buy it.
Cheers,
Tore

I'd send you mine but I'm selling my 964 and it goes with the car in case the next owner wants to fix it.

Thanks BigMikeATL for your comments. As ToreB says, now all seems much more clear: " 0.0 or P means that something is very wrong inside the tacho "

I will ask the cost to know temperature and consumption to Mr. ebay..... but as commented it has more sense to spend money to improve others topics on the car

I've seen OBC tachs on eBay for 600 to 1200.

I could kick myself for passing on a couple of them for 200 and 300 because I thought they were too much.

For the moment, I will use this money to adapt the air-conditioner to the gaz R134A, according to european regulation.....

And regarding OBC, I will take time to investigate more and even remplace some transistors like BS170 N-channel FET, just in case.....

Adrian Streather's book mentions a possible faulty diode 1N4148 on the LCD board, (he has wrongly called it 1N4118) I have changed it with no results.
I would be very happy to receive some info on how to fix this.

ToreB,

Where can I find the information in Adrian Streather's book about the possible faulty diode 1N4148?
My OBC indicates "0.0" from time to time, a battery disconnect (reset) will solve the problem for a while.

I do not have the book. Ss far as I know, is this the diode placed on the LCD board, easily visible inside the instrument.

Tore

Thnx! (again)
The HVAC explanation on your website helped me to change a broken fresh air servo. The German company that you recomanded "PARTIsan" refurbished mine.
Thanks a lot!

Finally I know what's the meaning of our "P" or "0.0" in our OBC : "corrupted memory", we need to change the memory and to re-load again the software.

here someone in France who can do it http://stationcompteurs.free.fr/accueil.html

A blinking P in the tachometer OBC display means that the inbuilt memory contents is indeed corrupt. I have now done several repairs of this, with great success. The memory chip has a finite number of memory read/write cycles, and fails over time. Replace the chip, load the correct contents, and hey presto!
Cheers,
Tore
