Default 964 C2 "Project My Way"

Hello guys,

Yes another post about the build of a 964. But I bet you don't mind

I bought my 964, my 92, at the end of 2010. When the PPI was done it was obvious it needed a new clutch, brake pads and disks, shocks, tyres and a big service. Luckily the seller had a pair of Bilstein HD (front + rear) in his garage (never got around fitting them) and we agreed upon the price that refelcted the state the car was in and the work that had to be done.

In the fist 6 months I drove about 10K (the maximum on my insurance per year). Here a few of the first pictures taken.

Some more info on my 964.

It's a flat black 964 from 1992 with sunroof, black leather interior (front seats), sound package and 17" cup I wheels fitted ex-factory.

It has done a little over 200.000 km (in the picture it's almost there).

No engine rebuild but with full service history since it has been imported into the Netherlands in 1999. Last owner had a full respray done a few years back and was nicely done by a shop that also works for an official Porsche center (so I thought, but more on that topic later).

As said before I drove quite a few kilometers in the first 6 months. I had some problems with the ABS warning light coming on. Indie told me it had to be one of the ABS sensors. But after spending some time here and checking/cleaning the sensors with no effect I suspected the ABS relais in the fuse box.

Changed it and problem solved. Thank you guys here at Rennlist Saved me some money.

Then the aircon stopt working. After checking there was no pressure in the system. Evaporater was leaking badly. My grilfriend also noticed that when the heater was on she still got cold air on her side of the car. Also the fans where making noise, just if there was a litte mouse in the car. In Germany I had sourced a complete heater unit from a low milage 964 with new evaporator for a very fair price. So in winter time I had my fist big job in chancing the heater unit. This was somewhere at the beginning of summer.

In the fall I had noticed that during heavy rain some water formed in the rubber seal of the windscreen at the lower left corner. One day in heavy rain I checked inside the trunk and there was a puddle in the cavity above the ABS pump
Some more investigation during winter when I would be changing the heater unit.

Winter came. We had just sold our house and where living with my girlfriends sister and her husbund on the farm untill we found a new house. Luckily they had a vacant shed where I could work on the 964. What I thought would be a straight foreward job has now turned out into a full rebuild of my car.

Here goes

When going over the aircon system I also noticed that the condensor was showing signs of a hard and long life. So I decided to replace it with a new fresh unit. So bumper had to come of.

After I had removed everything from the trunk, to gain acces to the heater unit, it was time to get it out.

I then found evidence of an old damage at the right front side of the car

So after seeing the remains of an old damage I thought what else could be there. I began taking away the carpet and found a nice puddle in the left back seat.

The rest in the back was also soaking wet. So I then decided that everything had to come out

I then remembered the water in the rubber seal of the windscreen. Peeled the rubber back and the windscreen came out, and the seal also. It was not bonded to the car. Rear window came out the same way. Then I saw the rust that was forming underneath the rubber seal.

So by this time it is spring 2012 and the car looks like this.

Around this time we als buy our new house which has to be finished on the inside (no kitchen, no bathroom, no toilets, no doors, etc.). A lot more work for me!

But on the plus side I now have a heated garage to work on the 964 . Here she's arriving and finally parked in her new house at the state she's in right now.

The big jobs in the house are also done so from now on I will be having some more time to work on the 964. I will try to make regular updates of the things that I'm doing and unfolding my ideas and plans and asking for your input and opinions.
