All work and no play is turning me into a dull boy
Thanks Tim for reading through such a dry thread, below 1100 should be possible, just don't ignore all the small stuff while you change the big stuff
Thanks HiWind, tyres were new but nicely bedded in by the time we hit the mountains
I found the SO2A's great, for me they performed very well in the dry, damp and monsoon conditions, lots of consistent feedback as the road surfaces changed, even when stretches of gravel were mixed in with tarmac.

The Spanish Pyrenees is full of fantastic empty mountain roads, some the best European driving there is, I've done a fair bit of the Alps and can say I'd go back again in a heartbeat.
5 cars in total, a mix of driving abilities, cars were a warmed up SC, a stripped out track spec'd wide bodied 3.2, a bone stock 964 C4, my old chugabug and a 997 Turbo. We used headset radios, not done this before but great for giving warning of approaching cars and cyclists or animals on the road. I'd go as far as saying it improved safety and almost a must have, very handy for keeping the pack bunched up when overtaking (also helps if the car in front looks angry, is brightly coloured and very loud)
First stop on the first day, doesn't get much better than this
lunch on the first day, looked like a Bond villain's lair, food was top notch
one very narrow slippery road with two way traffic, no barriers in places and +100m/+300ft drops, not a road to be brave on
weather wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, wet added a bit of spice to the day
this is more like it, a road, view and day like many others, also a rare view of me leading the group
a fast sweeping road running alongside a river gives a good mountain pass a run for its money in the fun factor
A great trip, 1800 miles in 6 days, I'd rather do 100 miles in the mountains in Europe than a 1000 miles in the UK
As to the difference in speed between my lightweight C2 compared to the C4 which had an extra 400kgs on me first impression was not a lot. Up hill about the same, traction out of the corner up hill about the same but down hill I was gone, no matter how hard I tried I could not get my brakes to fade. I was quite surprised at how little difference there was up hill until about the 4th day the penny dropped and I was using a higher gear all the time.
In the mountains the wide bodied 3.2 was the weapon to have, easily set the pace, on the windy, bumpy stuff the 997 turbo suffered the most but on fast smooth, straighter roads it left us for dead.
Lastly the weak link on my car other than the obvious ie me were the dampers, stability under braking felt good, traction felt good but the transition from left to right was a bit wallowy. Never once did I think wish I had more brakes or more tyre grip (other than when I did a big provoked drift around a downhill 180deg corner). Unlike most of the other guys I enjoyed the driving downhill sections more than the uphill sections which had everything to do with car weight and nothing to do with bravery
Ideally I'd like to do two trips close to each other one with my 5-speed box and one with my 6-speed box as I'm unsure which to sell for funds and which one to plow the funds into

Nice trip recap. And nice to read about how your project feels on the road. Growing up as a road cyclists, in love with lightweight parts, I would so love to have a second car to strip down into something fun, but very focused.

Busy day,
This morning I found and dragged a barn find 1969 Porsche 912 out from its slumber
As classic Porsche cars go its quite rare, one year LWB model in RHD, registered in July 1970 so could even be the last sold in the UK. One 912 specialist estimated there are less than 20 still on the road in the UK.
So glad it was where I'd left it
It was going to be a retirement project but as I have retirement projects queued up to keep me going until I'm 150 years old I've got to let this one go

Work, family, poorly dog, unwanted Audi V8 project , house project all leaving me with no 'me time' let alone 'Porsche and me time'
964 maybe feeling neglected but I've not been idle, keeping busy with work using the deepest darkest corners of my lightweight knowledge
Hit a proud milestone in Oct., survived my first year owning my own business, very different working for yourself, very tough but very satisfying so I to anyone on here that is doing it for themselves.

cool - congratz, I was or actually are in the situation to think about doing business on myself... good to hear that it might go ok and that it is satisfying in the end.
Keep my fingers crossed that everything runs fine and calms down somehow - AND you find some time developing your 964 to the lightest street legal 964 around...

Wow, over a year since my last post on my own thread, not good enough really
Sorry no Project Lightweight 964 news due to work commitments but I've kept my weight saving hand in by helping out on the design of the new Singer car
Still following it very closely from the sidelines as after a few months into it I was poached to work on the car design for a works Formula E team.
Think I pushed a bit too hard on my first electric race car as I fell over at the end and died at home from a full cardiac arrest. Mrs. Ahab saved my life with her first go at CPR.
3 days in an induced coma, a week in hospital, I don't do ill very well so after 2 and half weeks at home it was gently back to work
All my stars were aligned as I got away with it only suffering a slight bit of bruising and negligible long term damage.
My 964 is now in storage as I'm about to start a big extension on my house which will include my dream garage As the 964 news drought won't end anytime soon I'll slowly turn my thread into a garage build thread.

Keep an AED at the house if you dont have one already...no doubt for 1200$ its worth it like nothing else worth 1200$. Nothing really when we spend thousands on cars, just AEDs are not something we think about too often.
