Have a touch of play on the steering so im having someone look at the car monday (a geo etc specialist) . cars done 106k miles. Is it likely to be bushes that are clearly original or maybe steering rack? tks

as mentioned a few days ago there is a steering rack recall on the 964s - worth checking if yours has been done as then OPC will foot the bill

Yes recalls still apply - call it superior brand management

Talk to Tim Munford - Service Advisor - or mail him your vin.

I used my local OPC - just asked them to check my VIN for recalls. They then scope the various items - ie recall only applies if the item is not working/damaged by a certain degree per the updated service procedures, and if you're out of scope, they replace.

ps - If it works, I hope you used 5% of what you save to buy a membership here

Wow I'm quite amazed by this I'll make a call Monday. There is nothing in the cars service records I know of that would suggest it's been done and it definately is the original item so are you saying if it's not been replaced in that time it now will be?
Many tks for help.
Anyone else gone down this route ?

yes I did my car is still in my garage in bits but the dealer keeps ringing me to book it in and get some recall work done I my 23 year old 964 for free under recall. I need the heater resistor replacing and the steering rack wheel part (not sure which part ) and some other part all under recall they said 3 things needed doing to my 1990 car and my car is a import from California. The recalls will be done any time by any OPC as porsche will pay them to do the safety recalls.

Yep solihull was who I called Now they want to do recalls but I am not too fussed I know the problems & will do it when I get round to it. Oddly enough the guys at solihull never worked on the 964 it was before That dealership opened. So the techs never worked on 964 hence might go to sutton instead

Interesting though you must be getting the steering wheel adjusted sorted as they say the rack isn't the recall problem

I am not sure what they want to do. They did ring me every other week asking me when I can book car in for work to be done. I told them car is a project car and they said recalls outstanding and one of them was to do with steering ? what part exactly I am not sure as I have not had the work done yet,

Well this is the reply I got from opc

Hi David

I have checked the chassis number you have provided and there are not
any recalls on the car, the steering rack itself was never a recall as
far as I remember, it was the collapsible steering column that was a
recall, this was check for metal fatigue and renewed depending on the
test result,
If you have play in the steering I would advise to get this checked as
soon as possible.

Do you feel a knock at the steering wheel when you start turning it? Do you get the same feeling with the car on or off?

I had a similar knock at the wheel recently, and was worried it was a steering rack problem...turns out my steering wheel was loose at the hub. A simple tightening fixed the problem.

I hope it's something simple.
