Default Motive Brake Bleeder - just ordered

I have a Mighty-Vac unit and have used speed bleeders on some other vehicles, but decided to go with the Motive product for the Porsche.

My new rotors for the front will arrive Monday as will the Motive. I just replaced the rear rotors and pads a week or so ago. New brakes and fluid all the way around. I need to source some ATE Super Blue locally this weekend.

You'll like it!

I run mine wet with two pints (every other race weekend) - others do it dry.

If you run dry, one of our RL'ers has a great post on dry break fittings which allow you to "poomp it up" without loosing the pressure you do have.

I have used mine many, many times. One complaint - the clear hoses have decayed and have split apart. Seems to have been attacked by the fluid. Needless to say that this kind of failure leads to a very serious mess when full of fluid and full of pressure. I have cut out the bad sections and reattached; and I now run Dry. The hose seems to be an odd size perhaps? I had some similar 3/8" clear hose, I think, and it did not fit well. Any suggestions for replacement hose? Also the small hoses on my Motiv catch bottles have seemed to decayed as well. I use Ate and Motul RBF all the time.

after using mine for 4 years the hoses were eaten up by the brake fluid and heat in my garage. The last time i used it fluid was pumped out all over the frunk. Be sure to check them after a couple of years and replace if needbe. Its a great tool for bleeding the brakes.

Are ya'll flushing with alcohol after use?

I do. It's a pain, it's pricy, but I like (need the confidence of...) the clean tank, lines and fittings; all like new and ready to go again.

Waste of good Vodka. IMHO.

I also fitted an air chuck fitting to the device so I can get a rapid pressure up without all that pumping.

Good idea to flush with Alcohol.. didn't know about that.

I've been flushing mine with denatured alcohol too. Seems to be doing ok after a few years (4?) but I will inspect the hoses tomorrow when I bleed a friends car's brakes and clutch.

Great tool! I used it for the first time last year. Don't forget to bleed the clutch, too. The fluid in mine looked like it hadn't been bleed in years. It made a major difference in pedal feel.

I flush mine with a bit of inexpensive brake fluid both after and prior to using the unit. You definitely do not want any of the old stuff that may be left in the bleeder or hose to get into your resevoir - it will be fully saturated with moisture.
Had not thought of using alcohol to flush.
Jim - any suggestions on replacement tubing?

I modified mine years ago. Here's some pix of the air hose fittings that I used. You just screw on the cap, them plug it into the bleeder canister. When you have to refill the reservoir, just disconnect the air fittings and then unscrew the cap. The canister remains pressurized, so I just plug the hose back in and I'm back in business.

Also, the hose doesn't get all twisted when you screw on the cap.

Lou - That's a great solution. If you buy the "black" edition, the cap has a swivel fitting on it so that hose doesn't get twisted. It was only a few bucks extra.

I used clear plastic fuel line. Mine looked good but just crumbled with a little pressure.
