Default Singer Alternative

I like the Singer 911 a lot. Magnificient details, engineering, etc. But given the stratospheric price tag, it's beyond aspirational. It's implausible and unobtainium for the mere mortal on a bi-weekly pay cheque.

However, I like what Jack Olsen has done to his little project car.

I am sure many will agree what Jack built is serious fun. I had a 74 RS clone that read very similar to Jacks car. 2390 pounds with full interior using many IROC RS parts including factory aluminum hood, door skins and IROC bumpers with custom cut out for a factory 20 tube oil cooler as they did in the day. The car was built by an ex factory works mechanic using a 3.2 liter upgraded SC motor built by Max Moritz producing ironically the same 272HP mine was rated at. It also had the early turbo brakes. I have driven many fun Porsche's yet this one is still one of my all time favorite rides and I regret the day I sold it.

If you like a car like Jack's my best friend from HS (we started out rebuilding cars together in the 70's) now has a side business in Denver and builds some very nice cars. Still expensive but far less than Singer I believe.

I think the longhood RSR backdate kit for the 964 offered by DP Motorsport is just about perfect.

Very nice but the last set of 9 & 11 x 15's I have seen sold for $13k. I should have held onto mine.

Would love to do a back date conversion at some point - do you know the cost of the dp Motorsport rsr conversion?

Guy here has done a pretty nice job!

Thanks!

I think the Singer cars are spectacular. But they're definitely a no-compromise project, and the price reflects it.

Singer's are great, no doubt. With all the RWB conversions going on, i would think that DP Motorsports would have done more of their 964 backdates. If I were to do it, i would go with the DP, looks fantastic and, imho, will still be worth big bucks in 20 years.
