Default Headlight relay installation in 964

I'm installing H4s on my US 964 (currently with H5s) and want to add relays as well. I bought a headlight relay kit meant for a Carrera 3.2 and was planning to retrofit it for the 964. I was going to mount the relays near the battery so I can use the ground and hot leads that are part of the relay kit, and then wire over to the fusebox to make the connections to the high and low beam circuits there.

I'm a bit of an electrical novice, and was wondering if this is the best approach. Do others who've done the relays have pictures of their installations or suggestions on how to do this? Ideas on where to put the relays, where tap into the headlight power etc. are welcome.

Thanks much,

Derek

Yup, I read that writeup already, and I now understand the general logic and purpose of the relays, but was more curious about the specifics of other 964 installations, particularly where physically to wire into the headlight circuits and where others have mounted the relays.

Your last post, about cutting into the harness just above the battery, that's what I was looking for. Did you wire in fuses there as well? Do you have photos of the installation?

Thanks!

I got my kit from Daniel. He is a wealth of knowledge on the topic. I ended up mounting the relays right up tight to the front near the centre of the "frunk" and then wiring up to one of the existing headlight plugs on the harness to be my trigger. (no cutting so if I ever wanted to go back to stock I can easily do so). I'm running 100/90W bulbs on 14 AWG wire (I wanted 12 AWG but it was too tight a fit into the headlight bucket). 14AWG on these short runs is plenty anyway.

Thanks, any photos? Did you add fuses inline on the hot side?

I don't have pics and the car is stored right now. When you access the battery you can see a good spot to install the relays where i did that is hidden from view but easy to get at. I did install a fuse for each of the lo and hi circuits between the battery and the relay(s).

Fuses on the hot side? Definitely! I mounted my relays in two different places. On my C4, I put the relays in front of the spare tire. On the C2, I mounted them on an existing bracket that was to the right side of the spare tire. There was an open stud there so it avoided drilling. Sorry, no photos.
