If its only a bit you can remove it with the rubber.
Depends how much bond is on it.
Ive seen an import 964 with 20/30 mm of bond all the way round, glass and body. Very tough to remove.

Try pulling the rubber back, can you see any glue?
Russ is right I did a us spec cabrio about 15 yrs ago & went to push it out and it did not budge so looked at the rubber & pulled the rubber up in the corner and was bonded all round....had to cut rubber & replace..it also had a clear vynl film on inside from factory...

Seems to only be on the cab's from us market? Might be to do with the crash test stuff?

Given the none glues UK screens seem to suffer with the water ingress, then do you think once rust has been dealt with and re-painted, that it would be a good idea to bond then or to seal to prevent the water from gathering in the corners then?

Its seems that the none bonded or lack of sealant doesn't work in keeping the water out so wonder if the sealing option would be better going forward. I know it would be a PITA to get the screen out after that but would prefer to have that problem than the onslaught of corrosion!

Asking myself the same question as mine will be done soon. For the record the factory workshop manual indicates really clearly that the glass is bonded to the rubber and rubber bonded to the frame for both the front and rear windows. I've spoken to lots of people with first hand experience though that say the UK ones they've seen are never bonded in, maybe that's why they all leak and develop rust

here's the front, see steps 15 and 19

I will try to add a picture of my rust spot ! car is a 1990 LHD and came to UK in 1996 so has suffered UK climate and roads for 15 years or more.

I will check the state of the rust and try to put pictures up afterwards. If my car screen is indeed bonded as I have not checked yet then my car has also suffered the rust issue.

Water finds its way under the seal after washing or rain etc and stays sitting there will not dry out. A bit like if you get a rubber car mat and poor water on it and leave it sitting on some metal or concrete slab after a few days if you lift mat the area will still be damp underneath. This constant dampness causes rusting eventually. I guess this is my take on the matter but bonding will surely help as I cannot see a reason why water proofing is not a good idea. The only down side can be when the screen, if ever needs to be cut out and the rubber seal is cut if however you disturb the paint work around the rubber seal you need to make that good again as bare metal will rust quicker as we all know.

Talking

forgot to mention I was lucky enough to get an ebay bargain picked up a local windscreen complete with rubber and radio antenna loom all used but in good condition for £1.50 yes that is correct £1.50 which is roughly $2.5 lol which is cheap. I do not intend on using the used rubber will see as I have a new windshield rubber spare in my garage gathering dust not sure if it is original or copy how can one tell? is my screen original it is a SIGLA maybe a replacement ? maybe when it was done they did not re seal hence the rust ?

Yeah mine had quite a bit under the rubber seal and to be honest there was no rust marks showing when the screen was in the car, only a rough feel to the paint and small amount of blistering when you run finger over the surface, so i was surprised to see the amount of rust under the seal.

That hole is a good un, guessing you have some metal repair work with that one! Think i got off lightly then.

Its seems that the seals don't seal at all then on the uk cars!

Ok this is the stuff I use to seal a rubber fit screen & will only use urethane ( hard setting)on 993/996/997 etc, this is what I use and gone back to cars years later and the 3m stuff is still semi soft and doing its job.... Don't take this as gospel but its my personal choice of product.

3m rubber sealant & goes of semi soft so you can remove screen without having to cut rubber if you get a next time...

Not this stuff it's cheap but goes crusty after not very long so losing the seal on your rubber to body/glass.

No other manafac use,s glue on a lip rubber.
Wonder why porsche use it on sum cars and not others?

Ive never glued one back in, seams like over kill.

A good coat of wax oil on the aperture will slow the rot.

Here's an ugly shot of what mine looked like when the screen was taken out...and I didn't even have a sign of it in the scuttle like CBR's hole!

Ooooh box if that was what my car looked like after screen removal I would have been very upset lol luckily mine is not that bad behind the rubber as I went and pulled screen. I did it all by myself in 15 mins luckily it was not bonded but saying that it was bonded originally as I saw signs of sealant. The screen looks like it was pulled and refitted with out bonding. This explains why I got rust in the first place on what is a rust free car else where. Will try to upload some pics

If anyone feels like being a stickler the porsche pn for the sealant adhesive is 999.915.400.40 from what I can tell it is a hardening sealant. I wonder if that (or whatever pn supercedes it) is what they spec for 996/7.
