Yamaha RD400 in yellow with coffin lid tank. Two-up down the Tatton mile at 110mph.............Ah the memories.
Still think about buying another sport-tourer or a scooter for fun around town

I rarely ever get tempted to race with other car drivers on the roads , but odd thing is when I meet a fast bike i can't resist ! ( quiet roads with bends ) biker cranked right over, waiting right behind to blast past him on exit is a favourite. Then watch him really gun it to catch up on the straight. Nice if we part with a friendly wave after the fun.
They've done head to head track tests in motorcycle magazines when the car magazine guys get cocky and think they are fast.

The oldies are so nice. If I wasn't space and time-to-use-them limited, I would have kept my old 1963 R27, which is half the displacement and identical in styling. I too had the Earles fork.

I bought if off fleaBay several years ago from a guy on Long Island who said he'd gotten it a few years earlier from a retired airline pilot. He replaced the tires and mufflers, cleaned the carbs and fluids and rode it a bit. Mechanically it was pretty complete and ran pretty good but cosmetically it looked like a 55 year old bike that wasn't cared for too much. I restored it over that winter - it now sits in my office most of the time, right across from my desk. It really is a work of art but I do still ride it a bit.

As for placing a motorcycle indoors, I always said they can be dsiplayed as three-dimensional art. I think of the MV Agusta, the Moto Guzzi Daytona, the Ducati 916 and some others that way.
BTW, I had the original bar end turn signals in my R27.

Lovely old beemer ! Must admit I lost interest in modern bikes years ago and wouldn't
Know good from bad now. But these old ones I would love to have one. I only found recently
That in the 60s BMW had Porsche expertise to re-vamp the range. http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/cl...bmw-r60-5.aspx
There are also some rare BMWs from this period with Porsche 356 engine. Anyone have more
Info on this ?

I did some riding in the Dolomiti a few years back on a rented R1200RS with my friends who from Munich. Crossing the Grossglockner was a highlight as was Cortina. We stayed in a nice small hotel in Cortina and toured about for 2 days from there. It was awesome. Looks you're getting some saddle time in the Alps...where abouts?

Yammy FZ1. Scary at the edge...and raw. Hmmm seems familiar. 30+ bikes so far not sure what's next but the Kawi concours is pretty impressive

Right up my alley. In my opinion its hard to fault either machine. Personally I love Porsches as I am sure we all do. But saying that I also love motorcycles, there is nothing that connects to the road like a bike. Saying that, I miss the rumble of the 3.6 litre behind my head and shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. In terms of all out speed and fun its hard to beat a litre class sportbike. There is just nothing like it on the road. Its way too much power to harness, but a quick flick of the wrist and its like riding on a rocketship. Unreal. Only way to describe it. The best part is when you get to the twisties. Here in the next few years I will come back to Porsches when the addiction for bikes dies down a bit!
