Aerial Burial
So...it all started with time on New Year Day to install my TLock, which was simple after removing the passenger's seat...which in turn was a good excuse to acquire a set of hex sockets . The lock remotes work great ...thanks, Tore!
With the seat out I thought I'd look around under the dash to get an idea of how big a chore reworking the radio and/or antenna might be. I have not been impressed with radio reception from the Kenwood head/Pioneer amp pair installed by PO. The PO must not have liked reception, either..the photo shows his/her fix. Happy about the decision not to drill the fender...not sure about this fall back plan, though.
Does anyone have experience with the in-cabin 4"x3/4"x3/4" antennas that sell from ~$40 to ~$60?

Thanks, Rob...I'm dis-assembling and hope the original antenna & booster are present and intact or at least repairable...just wondered if the in-cabin antennas perform in case an alternative is needed

To complete the thread...the original antenna cable connector had been cut-off by a PO but the power lead was left wired into the radio harness properly; so the booster was powered but not sending the signal anywhere. I was able to splice the cable into a piece of the antenna cable pictured (a little delicate but it can be done) and now I have a good reception from the original in-window antenna. I'm not sure why the originl antenna gets so many complaints...it's doing a good job even for HD stations out here where the Houston stations begin to fade.

I have my seats out now so it would be a good idea to check into this while the underside of the dash is easier to get at. Where does the antenna from the window come out? What about the booster? Where was it located?

I'm told that the booster is above the glove box on LHD cars. The windshield antenna connection on my car is at the base of the right-hand side. Not sure how you access the booster without removing the dash top. Maybe this thread will help.

this what the booster looks like with dash top removed. It is located above glove box on LHD cars and probably behind clocks on RHD cars awkward to get especially with dash top in place. in my pic dash top removed.
