Did your shop give any estimates on hp gain from the mods/refresh?
Thanks

no, we didn´t spoke about horses. I said my ideas (the engine should have same torque in lower rpm`s like stock and should be more sportier/livelier in higher rev`s - but must remain the character of a daily-engine) and the guy told me his performance suggestions.
When i brougth the schrick-cams to the ballpark, he said that only the mild ones are suitable for my requirements - or the 993RS :-)

happy new year guys (and girls)!
the vacation of the engine builder is going to finish this week, so i need to make some decisions:
Over the last days, i read a lot stuff about cams in flat-6 engines. Often i read something about the 993SS grind, but less about the 993RS grind (which is different - i think).
I found some number:
this shows, that 993SS is nearly similar to 993RS. Are the numbers right - can somebody confirm this?
All i`ve read about the SS grind convinced me, to go the OEM route instead of using the schrick stuff (i`ve my hands on a pair OEM 93rs-cams for small money..) if the 93RS grind is realy that similar to the SS grind.
any suggestions?
Is it useful to go with the schrick-valve kit with titanium retainers when using 93RS grind and rev limit is still 7k or is it wasted money?
thx
thilo - with little headache

There's an actual engine rebuilding forum at the Pelican site; if you're looking for input you might try there. A lot of smart friendly people, some of whom happen to have built a lot of Porsche engines.
Rennlist is my #1 pick, but for really tech-weenie stuff (like which sealants to use, or how to figure out which head studs you want) I go to the engine forum there.
Luck!

engine is disassembled.
All big parts like crankshaft, piston/cyl are in perfect condition.
The shop moved to another building last month, so they didn´t find the 993RS cams anymore.
We bespoke to go the schrick-route (springs, cams and retainers).
Cutting the case edges (mooncut in english)
increasing the comp. ratio.
new pressure plate
993RS manifolds with modified intake
bearings, bolts and rings are renewed too.
If the snow has gone until march, i get my car in the first week of march.
When my wallet is refilled in some month, i think i buy the exhaust (with heat and cat) from the shop too

@Mikke
it's a small company.
They do the exhaust for my engine-builder exclusively
http://www.tusche-maschinenbau.de/au...uffsysteme.htm
The workshop is skramovski-motorsport. The exhaust is a little bit cheaper than the M&M version...

Update:
No pics yet, but got the Car back and did 500km.
Engine was Full refreshed like said some posts in advance.
Wie used the schricks with 1.8mm (mildest ones).
Car Runs great. It feels like driving one gear lower like before doesen't matter which speed. It idles good, but sounds more aggressive and has lot more "preassure".
I'm quite happy. Costs were in budget (less than 10k€ with some minor other tasks done).
I put some new wheels on (maritime blue ones with KU36's), got a roll- bar and moved back to yellow indicators...
Regards
