Default Car won't start after winter break

Hey guys,

got a problem here. Had my car in the garage since Nov. During this time I had the injectors out for cleaning, I also switched to MAF incl. a new chip.
Now the car just won't start. Battery is max, cranks perfect. Cranked through almost a battery (with breaks, obviously), but nothing. Not even a sign of life.

Can you help me out here...Especially witht he following:

1) I switched to MAF - I triple checked that I hooked it up right...BUT if I did something wrong, isn't the car supposed to run anyway on sort of an "emergency mixture"?

2) Had the injectors out and cleaned, then just put them back. Do I have to let air out of the system in any way?

3) Someone got a picture of his injectors? Mine are looking like they sit a bit too far out, e.g. the tapered form of the injector is NOT sitting in the bevel of the engine. Nonetheless, the rails mounted without problem and they seem so sit just right. Maybe the fuel isnt going in far enough...?!?!?!

4) Any good way to proceed from this point?

Cheers
Max

Another idea, I forgot to try this one, maybe...

5) Had the battery drained and also unplugged it. During this time, I left the car unlocked, since my manual lock is making problems from time to time. Today I plugged the battery back in and !did not! relock and unlock the car since it was unlocked. Could it be the immobilizer blocking the car? Does every car has one? What does it break? Spark and fuel pump?

6) Safe way to check for spark and fuel pump?

A small shot of starter fluid into the air cleaner will tell if you have spark .
I have a flaming river timing light , it is an inductance clamp type .
I can put the clamp on any wire and see if the light flashes while the motor is cranked over .
No spark no flash .
If you pull one injector and crank the motor does gas get injected from the injector when the motor is cranked over ?

Have you tried changing the DME Relay?

Allright digginf this one up again. Had some time...

Good thing: Fuel is there.

Bad thing: I don't think I've got a spark. Well, I pulled an ignition cable and put a metal screwdriver in since the sparkplugs are a bitch to get out. Did this on other cars...got no spark.
I do have +12V at the Coils. The car was only sitting in the garage. So my main question...

Since the DME was out and got shipped around - Does it influence / trigger ingnition? Is it possible something in there is dead? Does the car start with just one working coil? How likely is it that both coils died? I only looked at the upper circuit....
How can I check HighVoltage side of the coils?

Do you have an immobilizer of any sort? Those will screw with you sometimes.

I'm sure you know this but the spark needs to find earth, so if you pull the lead off, if you have an old spark plug you can use that in the end of the lead and then earth the outside of the plug to the engine. Or as indycam says use a timing light.

Immobilizer: Not a 100%, but I do not think so. Haven't found any box or so, and I do get fuel pressure. Also, got normal keys, no remote. Any other safe ways to check?

Spark: Held the screwdrivers free end close to the AC bolt which is grounded via engine. Its supposed to spark, isn't it? They sometimes spark through bad isolation, there is a lot of voltage in there...Wouldn't think a metal thingy is too much resistance. Will check with an old spark tomorrow though

I had a similar situation recently and it turned out that the DME connector was loose.

thats the one. also sounds like a problem i had years ago with my 02 A4 which turned out to be the crank position/speed sensor. not sure what the equivalent is on these cars...

I'll double check the connector.

Yes, there is a engine speed sensor which can be a cause for similiar problems. But again - why should it fail just by standing around? Ill check this one next though

If you have already checked your DME relay, I would inspect your crank position sensor.
