best exhaust for the 964?
something that has a nice scream when you're on the gas!
i'm sure there are 12 million threads, but since i'm as lazy as jabba the hut, just thought i'd ask!

stock engine?
- cat bypass
- primary bypass (higher pitch scream)
- (or) secondary bypass (lower, bassy sound)
- drilled airbox cover
- take out engine sound pad, so it's a little louder inside also (not just outside)
If you do all that, then get a Steve Wong chip.

What gains are to be had with something like a g-pipe and decay with a Steve Wong chip?
I had assumed a live remap would be required to get gains from a bits-and-pieces exhaust "upgrade" but would be very happy to be wrong as a chip in the post from Mr Wong would be much easier.

FWIW I tried cup pipe, g-pipe, cup+g, and settled on g.
Cup will split your secondary (and that sounds weird).
Cup+g was too loud (though my 5yo still asks "When are you putting the loud exhaust back on?"
g alone is good for me- not obnoxious on the highway but still plenty rorty when you're on it.

i thought the autothority chip was ok until I got the Wong chip, which is fantastic
I am running cone air filter, Fabspeed cat bypass and Fabspeed Dual outlet muffler, was way too loud with left pipe wide open so I baffled it and that tamed it to a reasonable roar.

I, too, have a K&N cone inlet filter, Authority chip and a Fabspeed dual exhaust. I also have a baffle in the left side in order to add some backpressure and remove the midrange drone.

Call Weiner and have them design and build a proper header/muffler system for your particular tune, needs and future plans.
It won't be inexpensive, but it will be the best.
Oh yeah, it will sound great.

what the devil does a steve wong chip do, anyway?
the problem is i have a b&b exhaust, which is all grumble and no shriek
it seems as though exhausts in the porsche community are much more esoteric-in the ferrari community, people just tell you to buy a larini!

My experience with a Wong chip:
Wong Chip - improved sub 4000 RPM response

Q&A @ Wong's website: http://911chips.com/faq.html
You can can have a custom exhaust made, like mentioned above, but the gains are modest considering the $$. (and you probably want heat in the cabin)
Colin @ Ninemeister wrote a couple excellent posts in the past on this subject...

So I always thought that getting a Wong chip then involved some specialist mapping, i.e. $$££.
But from reading the installation on the site, it seems that it's a relatively straightforward DIY job?
So is it correct that any exhaust mod, whether cat bypass, g-pipe etc, should be complimented by a some sort of DME "fix" and that's what a Wong chip does?
And even without an exhaust mod it seems that a Wong chip brings performance benefits.
AND it claims to sort out the LWF idle issue - 100% guaranteed!
Am I reading marketing hype or are these things the DBs?
Any reason NOT to fit a Wong chip?

Whether you want to install a SW chip is up to you. I have the LWF, cat bypass, primary bypass (cup pipe) and SW chip and would highly recommend it to anyone with this combination. Idle is rock steady, no stalling issues what so ever, and the engine definitely seems more "eager" ( read throttle response) than before the SW chip install.
