Default Third set of Brazilian coils!

I am ordering my third set of brazilian coils in a year. Unreal. I swapped the old coils from the coupe in my garage and my cab ran fine. Put back in brazilian coils, cutting out intemittenly. Unreal. I just put in new plug wires so maybe that was why I was going through coils? Are the Brazilian coils really that ****ty? Anybody have similar problem, or am I missing something? Bad distributer? I am at a loss here. I have tried everything. Hoping somebody can shed some light on this.

Thanks.

I have a used 993 coil, I would need the 993 coil wires. Some old used ones would do the trick just to test it out. Anybody have some they wan to part with? Also, anyone know if I need to use the 964 ignition ignitors with the 993 coil?

The "ignition ignitors" are the electric switches the take the place of the points . Its a transistor . The computer turns on and off the transistor , the transistor turns on and off the coils .
If I understand your question , then yes you need to keep using the "ignition ignitors".

Do you still have the old new Brazilian coils ?
Or did they get pitched ?
I wonder if they all failed in the same way ?

I have them all! The original blacks and two sets of brazilian's, with another set from Rock Auto on the way at $60 a peice. The old ones work, they just acted up from here and there. Maybe new wires help, but the symptoms on the old coils went away with their replacement. I actually just put in the set before the most recent ones and I am curious if they will act up again. That set used to do a more mild cutting out typiclly on letting off the the throttle every few days. Nothing so far today. I will be checking between now and Wed when my new coils show up.

How old in time/miles are the distributor caps/rotors, spark plugs?

The plugs are a year old, 20k miles, they are the correct Bosch plugs. Cap and rotor, a couple of months old, also Bosch.

Forgot to mention, the old coils I put in, are working like they used to, not abruptly cutting out like the set I just pulled out, but when I let off once in a while like I remeber it will kind of cut out. They have done it once, and I feel a little less power with this set as I also remember. So def the coils. But 3 sets!? including originals? Like I said, may of been older wire set causing this. Hope my new coils arriving on Wed solve the issue.

You may want to check that the caps/rotors havn't been compromised, by looking for signs of carbon tracking, etc..

I installed new set of coils earlier and went for a couple hr drive. All seemed well. time will tell. The snow on the ground is not helping things tonight, as I always enjoy a drive after talking to ex on the phone.

There has been lots of discussion on this and no firm conclusions, but
I can convey my own personal conclusions.
I had a few bad wires, and I believe that caused arching at the coils
which in turn ruined them. The constant arching caused the ceramic tower
on the coil to deterioate. New wires and new coils solved my issue.
My first symptom was the christmas tree effect, all the dash lights coming on.
I did not have a noticable misfire, but it did seem to run much better
after the repair.

Yes. Check here for a comparison of coil types 'Typical Ignition Coil Values':
