Default early 964 rear shock adapters

I was intrigued by the rear shock adapters shown in this thread:

Pelican Forums.

I was then disappointed when Jeff of Rothsport said the adapter he had probably would not work for me as they were specifically for 993 PSS9 to early model 964. I'm not clear why the adapter wouldn't work for other shocks. Maybe its the way the center of the adapter is machined to fit over the top of the shock (see pictures).

We then talked for some time about what it would take to make an adapter. He said it was possible, but was it worth it??

I'd like to fit Koni's if I could get an adapter.

Does anyone know of an adapter??

Is anyone interested in an adapter if I were to get some made?? Note: I'm not sure at this point how general purpose an adapter can be made.

Ideas, suggestions?

thanks,

Dan

Another option is KW. They make great coilovers and offer them for the early cars. I have them on mine and love them

Default I have them!

For years I have needed these. Early 964s take a different rear shock mount. They even have a different bolt pattern. I finally spent time with a friend that has a CNC and we built them. They bolt up to the late style rear shock mounts so you can use them in an early car. They are thick so it compensates for the shock height difference.

Do you have V1 or V3? How low is your ride height?

Bilstein makes a version of he pss10s for the early cars. I believe the final 4 digits of the part # is 2626

I don't think they actually make them anymore....that's what I've heard.

I.e. they've been on back order for years.

IIRC the 993 uses a 4 bolt pattern vs the 964's 3. The early and late 964 have a different offset on the two closer bolts.

You need to talk to a Bilstein approved distributer. Luckily the shop I had my PPI done when the car was up in Canada was a distributer so I told them what I needed and they worked their magic. This was less than two months ago by the way. Just talk to Bilstein USA and they should help you out

I'm running Standard Suspension dampening adjustable coilovers w/camber plates. It's a Canadian company, so you could catch a good deal with the dollar difference right now.

Thanks for the heads up Doppelganger.

Given the limited availability of shocks for the earlier cars...

If I understand this correctly, this spacer would allow you to use any shock on an earlier car.

Can anyone confirm that?

I see these are available here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...tW2Lhb&vxp=mtr
