Default Interior swap?

Expert--how difficult (and expensive) would it be to replace a tan interior with a black one, assuming a swap was not on offer?

TIA.

I did it to my 993. Tan to black using Surflex dye - works on leather and vinyl. I also removed the tan carpet and replaced with black carpet from AppBiz. Not that hard but you have to remove the tan pieces and paint the dye on outside of car (for best results/coverage). Also, use the surflex leather cleaner/moisturizer first. Make sure when you dye that the temp is over 70 degrees. Takes 3 light coats. Best to use a spray gun but I used a good artist's brush.

I did this using replacement parts and a carpet kit from Appbiz. Not hard really (except for the carpet, which takes a full weekend). I suppose dyeing/painting would work, but I would wonder about the durability and uniformity of the color. The only thing I ended up painting is the B-pillar trims, which are all but hidden by the seats and incur very little wear as long as people aren't climbing in and out of the back seat all of the time (I don't have a back seat any more anyway).

Also, done with a flexible timeframe (i.e. you don't care if you have a hodgepdge of black/tan for a bit) its pretty cheap. Swapping to RS door panels saves a good bit of money too.

Going on my own dying excperince I would presume farenheit (celcius would be way up at 70!). Thats just a general background temperature.

You dont want to work in the cold / damp as finish can be poor and drying takes ages.

Use a hair dryer to help if needed.

Farenheit. What's Celsius? Also, the dying is much cheaper thast replacement parts. IIRC, a quart (liter) of surflex is ~US$85.

Thanks, all. Sorry for such a random question for my first post on here. I'm interested in purchasing a 964 soon, but am pretty particular on what I want, color-wise. I found a car for sale that has one of my "acceptable" exterior colors, but I'm not fond of the interior color. But I know enough not to pass up a solid car if it has certain items I can "fix" or "adjust". So I'm weighing my options.

Old thread but worth a try. Has anyone dyed their carpet without removing it? I hear the removal is quite a pain and dying the carpet without removal would be simpler then removing, dying and installing again.

I did it (but not a 911) Used a spray dye and it has to be very warm outside (low humidity helps) takes over a week before the stuff stops staining the back of your pants legs!
