Steve - That's strange as the Technical Bulletin states there is a wiring harness T36 located there? Unless this was last of model 964s?

From what I've seen TSBs are Country specific. If that's a Porsche North America TSB (I've not seen it) it might simply be that our harnesses don't have it? And this may be why folk have tapped into to a rear light (see Kevin's post earlier). I'll have a double check this weekend to see if I missed anything.

Mine is a German car and it has the connector, I guess all cars should have one taped to the underlayment under the parcel shelf.

Bassie, here's the plug I found at the base of the parcel shelf (behind the soundproofing), does it look like the one you used?

Ehh, no there should be a 6 pin called T36 . Thats is what the wiring diagram says for a 1990 964 top mount brake light.

You connect to pin 6 i believe

Making progress on my spoiler light and blue donor spoiler. First challenge was finding flexible ice looking LED. From there, finding center, drilling holes and finding path for wires.

I have separate thread that I am updating.

Looking good - for ease, have you got a link to the separate thread?

My take on the subject
3$ for a 12 inch LED strip. Under the rear shelf cover, in the connector for the rear window defrost wires, the #6 connection (black and red wire) is for the 3rd brake light. I used the rear wiper motor support as a good earth. The cable tucks in nicely under the window seal, and the LED strip is self adhesive.
I don't want to remove the sticker (from a no longer existing local garage), but there are enough lights visible as is.

I'm a researcher and like to group information... with that said, I found this interesting 3rd light mod I wanted to share. (I like GeorgeK and Ray's modification better...)

Thanks for the positive feeback.

It took be a bit to find it. Very interesing idea.

I read thread about using the rear fog lights. Appeared to be a lot of work and I was thinking that US law required a certain height and distance from the regular lights. Mine is low too when spoiler is down, but I was removing the ET light no matter what. The bonus was that I was able to find a nice flexible light and donor spoiler to drill and I "may" be US compliant. ND is less strict about such things.

Putting a third brake light in line with the normal lights defeats the object. It needs to be higher as that is where most drivers are looking and gives them better time to react.

does the 993 cover most of the black box from the 964 brakelight or is a considerable portion visible still? does it block rear visibility less? the 3rd brake light is smack in the middle of where i am trying to see approaching cars in my rear view mirror
