Default Hi everyone! What should I pay for this 964? First post, thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. My name is chuck and I live in Philadelphia. My car obsession has taken me to many different cars that I have owned. I have been in the market or buy a "sports car" and have had many different possibilities come to mind. That is up until about a year ago when I really fell in love with the 964. It has made me dream of owning one, literally.

I have looked at 2 different cars and both have fallen thru. But, it looks like I have now found another that. I am really excited about.

It is a 92 c4 black on black with 42-45k miles. Excellent condition.

Asking price is 35k.

I have learned that, for whatever reason, I am having a hard time figure out what the "right " price is for this car.
So, I am asking for help- what would you pay for a car like this?

Again thanks in advance for the help and hopefully I will be sting pictures in the next week or so!

Chuck

Chuck
Check the 964 price thread to get feel for pricing.
34k for a 92 c4 seems a bit high to me...

Sounds too high in my book... the rule seems to be they are 20k USD cars.

So 35 is waaaayyy up there unless it's some kind of specialty car.

Others will have a better answer, but give the search a try and look at the first page. There were two recent purchases. Both were under 20k... but the condition may be very different.

Good luck with the hunt and drive a few in the process to see if you like the c2 better or the c4.

sound a little high even for the miles

a good 100k + car is going for 20s these days.

If there is no damage, needs nothing, and everything is there: books jack tire compressor tool kit and is documented well it's probably in the 27-32 range deduct from there.

Thanks!

I think it is the low miles that is throwing me off. It looks like most cars recently sold are higher in miles.....

I agree with the $27-32 Range. Try to find someone in your area very familiar with the 964 (check out the local Porsche club chapter) ----- It's far better to find a great car and pay a fair price for it than to buy a car that needs a lot of work. The $ add up fast! Be ware--- looks can be deceiving! Be sure to have a Porsche expert mechanic do a Pre Purchase Inspection PPI before you are committed! They know what to look for and can be objective. Also ask to review All available service records and see if the milage makes sence with the odometer--- get a car fax too or ask if there is one available already----- Ask what has been upgraded-- suspension? exhaust? etc etc-- Best if the car has not had a large number of owners--- a 92 model might have 3-4 but if there has been many more- there might be a good reason.
Go for the 964-- modern suspension-- excellent power--- first of the modern era with the mystic of the traditional 911 shape............. Mine is an RS America 1993 and I love driving it anywhere- but especially the open road..... The 964 is in many quarters considered a bargain!! good luck....

IMO 32K is reasonable with those low miles if the car is pristine and checks out with a perfect PPI and has had a suspension update, nicer wheels than stock etc. I'm in the area (Main Line). Let me know if you need anything like the names of good mechanics.

Again, Thank you everyone for your help and input.

I was thinking the 28-32k area also. I am going to try and arrange a PPi later this week and will fill you all in.

laker, Thanks for offering some contacts. I have spoken to "The Porsche Specialists" in Broomall and they have been so helpful, making me walk away from another 964!

Thanks and stay tuned!

Kevin, "The Porsche Specialist" in Broomall is who I would recommend. He is excellent.
