Great thread and pics gents,
Nail on the head IMO - agree.
I have a couple ideas of my own for a custom hot rod 964, I would:
*The subtle 'double bubble' roof of the 911 Sport classic. I'd have the 'valley' the same width as the one on the bonnet.
*Cup car mirrors, rain gutter delete and wing indicator delete to get the clean line.
*I would take out the rear quarter windows and replace them with body coloured convex subtle air scoops that feed the rear brakes or engine.
*Replace front bumper with the Audi modified one as a nod to it.
*Strosek rear spoiler that replaces the grill.
*Rocker shark fins with ducts - can't find a pic but they were available on ebay Germany, some one brought them up recently????
*993 Aero door handles.
*Techart fog/ air ducts.
*Twin exhaust.
*HRE Wheels.
*RWB inspired rear bumper ducts.
*I'd also build custom rear swing arms to accommodate deep dish wheels like the 3.8RSR but on a narrow body.
All on a narrow body. I would do it metallic black with a subtle red fleck (no surprise there) with a metallic red stripe running down the whole car - pictured in black on a mustang.
I think the whole look would result in a hot rod style that is 90's 964 and that doesn't hark back to the earlier cars.
I think a good inspiration is the last picture of a Rennlister 993 Turbo engine powered white 964....
But I think we need to expand on the heritage of what we have in the 964. Whether it is aiming for the Euro RS, 964 Cup or something wilder like a 3.8 RSR or RWB. The cars in your post I quoted here are more the direction I'd like to see the hot rod 964 crowd move toward.

Never seen the strosek rear spoiler before...like it. Has anyone extended the deck lid down to the rear bumper? This idea plus the strosek item would look great... 911r rear lights, 993 rear quarters, centre exhaust, RUF NACA duck on rear qtr...

I'd like to do a 911R inspired NB 964 C2 or you could call it C2 Leichtbau
Remove 300-350kgs, all driver assistance (power steering, ABS, brake servo) and all mod cons to create an agile very lightweight track focused car.

I fell in love with basket weave when I sat in the car below....(pic of my brother)
In a nod to the past, I want to put it on my dash also...totally deleting the radio using a nice long uninterrupted piece along the dash (except for the airbag). I just need to figure out how to remove everything on the dash first....
Regarding the door panels. The RSA style basket weave would look great. I still want to keep the stock door pull and pocket (so useful), but would replace all of the stock vinyl on the main part of the door with basket weave.

Don't get too hung up on the backdate part of this thread. They are beautiful...
The thread is really about hot rodding these cars. Taking ideas from past Porsches, track inspired bits, R-Gruppe stuff. Mixing it up and creating a bad **** 964.
Maybe it's just to the 917 with a balsa wood shifter?
Or something more extreme! (I finally found the R tails on a 964 type bumper...well Strosek is close enough)
Hope to see this at Cars & Coffee tomorrow!

Here is a 911 that employs my rear quarter window scoop idea - although I would do it more subtly: smaller, body colour, slightly squarer in shape with rounded edges and a rolled lip. It's a project I imagine exploring in the future. I imagine duct tubing running through the interior of the car to the engine bay.
