Default Fan screech noise (interior)

The little fan that runs after you shut down the car has spun its bearing making a continuous screeching noise. I assume this is part of the "blower interior sensor".

Is this right?

Is it serviceable? How do I get at it??

It looks like it may be mounted to the control switch behind the HVAC controls.

Thought I read a thread a while back on this, but can't find it now.

Driving around with it wailing drives me crazy.

Thanks,

Dan

I'll read link first. Then ask questions.

Good fix.

Is fan still quiet??

Thanks

The fan would stop spinning. When I gave it a little nudge it would start up again, but I could hear it. I lubed the spindle, and the noise went away, but a couple of months later I had the same code. Fan had stopped, but would start again (more quietly) when I gave it a nudge, or stuck a straw on the CCU air sampling vent and blew. Apparently the magnets weaken over time, and the only solution so far is to replace the fan for $200. This is why I mentioned lubing the spindle will help with the noise if the fan is still spinning on it's own.

Sunset charged me $203.41 + shipping in August.
If the fans is spinning, which it must be to be screeching, just lube the spindle. When the magnets weaken to a point that it only starts with a nudge, will you have to replace it.

Thanks.

I just oiled and installed and it sounds OK

BUT, my recirc switch popped off and wont go back on.

Looks like the picture in your thread.

I'll try some crazy glue, but I think I'll be back in there eventually.

Dan
