Is there a cheap one thats fitting 964...?

Nice to have: Bluetooth (or iphone cable) hands-free, iPhone-charging while connected...

Any single DIN radio will fit. Go to somewhere like crutchfield.com to see what's available. Lots of $99 and cheaper radios on the market now with iPod integration.

Alternatively, you can add an aux in to most of the single DIN OEM Porsche radios and keep a more authentic look.

iPhone 5, and the latest generation of iPods have changed to a new 8-pin connector. I don't think any car stereo supports them yet (OEM or aftermarket). I leave an older iPod in my glove compartment, with the flat connector, which had been the standard for 10+ years. You can use your old (4s or earlier) or buy an adapter.

Thanks, but I'm talking about the connector between radio and car. I think mine was a roundish plug while the ones in the store had sort of a flat connector...

Oh, you'll have to cut the wiring harness on the car and match the radio wires up one-by-one. In my thread I linked above, I have the Alpine/964 wire mapping.

wow that sounds annoying...aren't there some sort of pre-made adapters out there?

No cutting with the Blaupunkt, that I am aware of.
I had it professionally installed.
Ordered it from German e-bay.
Ridiculously inexpensive.

Ha! They don't even make extension wires for the alpine head unit to the alpine amp, which is needed if you want to mount the amp more than a 1/2 meter from the head unit. (Like under the passenger seat). Good luck with a current radio having custom connectors for a 20 year old Porsche. I'd bet a Hefeweizen that Blaupunkt isn't plug and play. Hope I'm wrong.

I think the Blaupunkt Toronto 420 BT is a plug & play. Below are 2 pictures, first is the Blaupunkt, second is Becker that plugs directly into Porsche wiring.

The Toronto has a front USB port which is how you could hook up your new iPod or iPhone and no special Lightening to 30pin adapter is required. Just use the cable that comes with the latest generation iPhone5 or new iPod which has a male USB on the end.

Wow, that is pretty impressive, where do I send the beer?
But if Max currently has an Alpine in there,

then it depends on how that one got hooked up. I had an old Alpine in mine, and still had to cut. Luckily the wire colors were the same 20 years later.

The beauty of the dedicated iPod cable is you can just leave the iPod in the glove box or behind the dash and control it via the head unit. Not sure if the head unit would control the iPod via USB?
