Congratulations! It feels good doesn't it? It will feel even better when you put the engine back in the car and it starts. I was doing the happy dance the first time I did it.

I've only gone and caught "while you're in there"-itis!

The flywheel and cover plate were scored and shot - new ones ordered (will use the vertex disc I already have)
Leak (medium sized) from the gearbox input shaft - new seal ordered
Missing seals from the release fork - ordered
Missing gasket from the lateral lock cylinder - ordered
Leak (small, but sadly big enough) from the power steering pump - rebuilt seal kit ordered
Leaks (gearbox is filthy so hard to tell what's really leaking) from gearbox rear output shafts - seals ordered

And since I'm at it:
new oil pipe, rubber hose and fitting (the one at front end of case)
new camshaft power steering seals (inner and outer)
new flywheel bolts
new pressure blot bolts
new pilot bearing
new RMS - current one is fine
some new front left engine tin (contemplating the rear tin, and front right - but I think these are salvagable)
new updated release fork
new front transmission mount

Oh and I decided to take the inlet manifold off to clean thinks up a bit.

I should have all the bits for the weekend - so if anyone fancies coming over to drink tea and watch me try to put it all together on Sunday you'd be very welcome

That reminds me I need to pop out and get some ATF and a new oil filter.

BTW I cut open my old Porsche oil filter (made in USA) and compared to the Mahle OC54 I had in there recently - the Mahle is way better made and has about 50% more filter surface area.

PS I've noticed a crack in my LHS heat exchanger just by the flange for the CAT - doesn't look fatal - but I'm pricing up options; new one from ebay germany £1100, or maybe get a new thicker flange cut and reweld onto the existing HE or even full systems from Fabspeed, Haywood & Scott, Billy boat etc, etc.

It is very exciting. As you say, re-fitting it all is what separates the men from the boys!

It's just a race now to see if I can get it all back together and working before our baby arrives...

WO0ooow!

Are we ever going to see you again?! Will you be ready for Spa next year?!

So impressed - when are you opening shop? It should be called
'' The Good Doctor's Porsche Shop ''

P.S. You'll also need an assistant...

Lol, yes Spa should be OK.. if I'm disciplined and stop pulling at threads

I'll confess there is a nice R32 GTR skyline that one of the club guys is selling at the moment - conservative tune; just the 419 bhp! Which I thought might be fun to add to the stable, as a banker you know just to make sure I'm mobile and have something to take to track days while the other two are being worked on lol surely I can't break three cars at the same time?

The gory details:

Engine with every orifice stuffed with shop rags:

Transmission marginally cleaner thanks to swarfega and a stuff brush

Some parts I hope to remember how to put back together - obviously, everything is labelled with forensic detail, haha.

Barely visible crack in exhaust

Slightly bent but still sound engine carrier - job for another time

First of a stream of new bits, shocked by how much of that bit of engine tin is missing!

Lol you're not wrong, but then the "bundle of joy" arrives in Oct, so one or way or another I figure I'll definitely be broke in six months, so it's just a question of getting there in style!

Alex,

I noticed what I think is insulation around the cat in one picture. I had done a similar fix to inhibit what I thought was the heat from the cat causing premature failure of my tires. I lost two tires to blisters along the inside sidewall.

I was wondering if this is the same reason for your treatment. I had asked the forum if anyone else had seen a problem like this and got a negative response.

I hope to drop my 90 C4 engine soon as its in dire need of a reseal. Your post gives me hope I can pull it off.

Lastly, what make of lift is that??

Good luck,

Dan

can't see to lay my hand on one, but its pretty stock looking, similar to this one http://www.avoncustom.co.uk/carsales/93gtr.html it's built by the skyline equivalent of 9m.
