Default Frunk release

My Frunk release cable has broken... and I think my car is a 91 so without the emergency release

Will check later but if it does not have the release what can I do?
And where do i get the replacement wire from, presume a bike store? anyone know the length?

I'd take it to a specialist. I think they have to drill a hole in the floor.

having said that before you do which end has the cable broken? if its broke near the lever end you may be able to get some pliers on the cable?

also this has just reminded me can we retro fit the emergency cable before ours breaks?

****.

Had a look earlier and there is no emergency cable. Surely Porsche should have done a recall on this if drilling is going to be the only way to open the boot...

I'm not very happy. Probably won't achieve anything but feel like writing to Porsche about this.

Default Hood rlease

Found some other posts... for anyone else running into this problem.

Consensus seems to be to either go in through the bottom, widening the hole or going in through the side, where the wiring loom comes through. I am going to try the latter first.
Will let you know how it goes.

Jack, make sure you take Pesty's advice of dismantling the handle first to check if it it's come off there. If you can grab the cable and it pulls all the way out then unfortunately it's broken at the latch.

Here's my thread about the cables which might be of help once you get it open and are onto the repairing stage:

Checked already, it is definitely broken inside the trunk, not at handle end.
Ordered the replacement cables from Porsche, including the emergency one. Now jsut need to get the damn thing open. will not be easy.

Default Success!!!!!

Took about two hours but managed in the end! Went in through the passenger wheel arch. Took off wheel, then liner and got to the place where the emergency release should have been. There is a bundle of wires for headlights and so on coming from boot, took out the grommet and pulled these aside. Then had to deal with carpet that was fitted and still in the way. Used a few different metal bars, pushed through carpet and then used a long pry bar to pull it off from under the lock. Then used a boreoscope with a hook made from a coat hanger, pushed it through the hole and fiddled around for about an hour till I managed to hook the mechanism!! You cannot imagine how amazing it felt to hear the bonnet pop open! Someone advised to push the bonnet down while pulling on the catch and this definitely helped!!

Wow, congrats on getting it open!

Does your car not have a/c and condenser in the way?

I just added an emergency release to mine a couple of weeks ago using a bicycle brake cable. It was pretty straight forward and inexpensive. I run mine out through the same grommet as the battery vent tube.

Glad to hear a happy ending! As mine is a 90 would love to know how to retrofit an emergency release on mine. I've got plenty of spare bicycle cables laying around.

Vandit would you have pics of how you did this? Or is it simply hooking up the secondary cable on the same hole as the primary and routing it through the battery vent hole? What did you use as a puller?
