Default DME relay is hot to the touch

ok so yesterday it was 100 out and humid drove the 964 for a a good hour drive. ran fine . I drove i this morning and was fine until just now it died on me twice and would be down on power which seemed like it was from going around corners and running out of gas which it was not. I just parked it and checked the DME relay and it was hot to the touch. What would cause the DME relay to get hot? from all the records I see no mention of a fuel pump so I am half thinking it is on its way out. Any thoughts?

Is it possible the contacts inside are dirty/grody? Wouldn't the increased resistance make heat?

Can you open it up and check them? Sometimes a quick clean with emory paper can make a diff.

not sure it is dirty I am suspect of the relay just bad out of the box. I bought it new 3-4 months ago and I used it 2000 miles. I will take it apart and check

Cool I will check that out. I was unable to take the car for a drive last night after switching to the old relay but will check out the new one(the one I think failed) out and see whats in there. I am concerned it could be a couple of things going on with the running condition including possible AFM, CHT, vaccum leak , but I think DME relay seems most likely as I did start it up last night and it idled perfect with good throttle response though as I said nothing under load and this seems heat related

Thanks I will keep that in mind I also have a 3 way jumper that I made but the biggest issue is it needs to warm up and run for a while before it (car cuts out)will happen I also need to look at the AFM TSB this evening

Good luck with your fault finding
