Frank, this looks a great build...

...but I'm concerned about the noise...I'm worried it'll be too loud, and it'll turn Black Betty into something you can't use as often...

How did you go about your camshaft selection? Did you consider something milder than RSR cams given you plan to use the car on the street and the track?
The high lift cams were chosen in conjunction with the ITBs. I run around with my suspension on full hard 100% of the time, comfort, practicality aren't issues. With the right tuning Nick has many of these engines purring like kittens even in everyday scenarios.

We're aiming for 105db (same as I had before) I'll be using clip on exhaust baffles of some kind when it needs to be a tad quieter...

How's the BMW?

UPDATE 2

* Powder coating - Guards cam covers & fan. Black fan housing. Silver fan surround.
* Engine tinware - All the trays etc are in great condition, which is a big surprise. Nice cost dodge there.
* Machining - Cylinder heads are being worked on, ports detailed with Nick's special techniques. Case has been gas flowed and detailed.
* Crank is being balanced.
* 4 Engines have left his shop leaving room for mine up in the assembly room - assembly should begin next week.

I'm being sent photos soon - so will post those asap.

Wow!....at this rate, you'll be getting your car back on the road sooner than me, you bugger!!

Seriously, great progress...told you Nick was sound!

Look forward to a catchup chat mate....been a lot of progress on my build, which after >6wks of not updating the thread, I finally got around to today.

Update 3

* Could have chosen more aggressive cams and uprated rockers but this would effect drivability & blown the budget.
* Compression - 11.5.
* Pistons & Cylinders are 3.8 993RS Mahle items - have arrived.
* ARP Head studs & through bolts have arrived. Machining required for new case bolts to fit.
* Heads will have bigger valves in the end, exhaust ports being reworked. Aiming for similar spec as 993RS heads.
* Case has been boat tailed - increase flow.
* Wiring loom being made up.
* Crank has been polished and balanced.
* Also I made a mistake re Nick's HP estimate - so won't make any claims until the dyno results come out...
* Received some pics of the disassembly...
