Default Shocks

Any cost conscious recommends for front and rear shocks on a late 90 produced C2?

I did bilstein HD from Shox.com and they were failry inexpensive...having the shop install them was the expensive part - and allignment...but as a DIY it would have been cheep....

I bought my bilstiens from shox.com as well.

I did my own install and had it corner balanced and aligned elsewhere.

Mark and Darin at FD Mortorsports gave me a price below Shox.com when I ordered several months ago. They are Rennlist sponsors and frequent contributors to the forum. I highly recommend them.

I just did the Bilstein HD's and went with the H&R Green Springs. Very happy with the combo!

Anyone tried this kit? Look like cheap compared to other brand.

dont see how these can fit both old and new style rear mounts unless you can get a choice.

Thinking im gonna go with the bilsteins as soon as the next payday comes along. Right now old reds a little harsh on the bumps and thats bothering me. also though seems like the more I drive the better it seems to get as far as handling the bumps. still, I am pretty sure that it could use some decent supports as the other ones are probably originals.

I just installed HD's and H&R greens on my '94 c2. The rear turned out great, but the front needs .5 - 1" more of lowering capability to be perfect. Bilstein makes sport shocks for the rear, but does not make a sport strut for the front. The HD's are meant to be married to stock springs. Jeff Gamroth at Rothsport racing likes to set the 964 up with the rear fender lip right on the top of the tire and the front fender lip .5 -3/4" up from the top of the tire; if I understand him correctly. The spline of my rear shock is at about 1/2 way with good adjustability...the front is at it's max lowered position and is about 1/2" higher than I would like. PSS10's give more adjustability, but will cost you a lot more money. My car currently sits a tad lower than a RS America...it does look great! I am hoping the springs will settle up to 1/2" over time...then it will be perfect to my eye! Hope this helps! Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated! Aloha!

Correction! H&R PURPLE lowering springs; not green! Sorry! (purple is the new green). I'm a little under the weather today!

Sure they do,
Bilstein
VE3-05767L, VE3-05767 R, rear x2 BE5-05760

or you could use 993Cup verions
front VE3-05816 L, rear VE3-05816 R, rear x2 BE5-2353

H&R also has these same shocks just w/ their brand

You'd want to have them valved to suit your car

Bill...thank you so much for your input! Both Bilstein and shox.com have sworn to me that they only make the HD's for the front on a 964. I will call them back and discuss the model numbers you have provided. This has been a confusing topic and decision making process due to to contradicting information! I am blown away that the sales reps for Bilstein don't give their customers the correct solutions! I have spent months trying to find the best solution for my particular needs. The dampers and springs are now on the car and now Bilstein wants me to send the struts back to them so that they can rebuild them so that I can get the car set up correctly. I'm scratching my head here! Thanks again Bill for the info!

You could also use the Bilstein 964 Cup/RS shocks, these were oe and available through a dealer.

Buying shocks can be confusing because some are crimped cans and can't be rebuilt, be sure that what you buy is rebuildable/revalvable

Hi Bill...thank you for your time! Do you know if the RS/Cup struts will give me more drop than the HD's? Will they be more firm? Can I marry the RS/Cup struts with the HD rear shocks or do I need to swap the HD rear shocks for RS/Cup shocks? I need to figure this out by Monday afternoon! Long story! Thanks again for your help Bill! I have read many of your posts and know you know what you are talking about! Regards! Sorry to jack this thread, but I think this info. is very helpful to many!
