Default 993 hub carrier

I have searched, but could not find:
Has anyone actually checked that the shock absorber mounting flange is thicker on the 993 alloy hub carrier? There is conflicting info on that.

When I see the price of the 964 RS hub carriers, I want to try and fit 993 parts...

I used the RS uprights, no problem.

You mean, you are using 993 RS uprights, or 964 RS uprights? I want to use the 993 ones as the 964 RS uprights are *very* expensive.

I'm using the 993 RS, If you want to use the 993 ones, you'll need a bigger lower bolt, a 993 caliper or adapter. they are lighter and a nice upgrade if you want to upgrade the brakes.

Thank you Bassam,
I want to use the 993 uprights, but I have new Bilsteins, and don't want to change them. I already have 993 calipers with adapters.
So a lower bolt, a new lower balljoint, a bearing and I should be rockin'.

use a 964 ball joint, you will need to make the hole in the shock bigger too. Dont use the old camber adjustment bolt, get a new one with the proper nut, the lower one will be new anyway. Same applies for the caliper bolts.

George K,

Also, if you're talking about switching to 993 uprights from 964 uprights, don't forget you'll also need new front rotors or hats - there is an offset difference between the two.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave, I am aware of that.
At the present time I am using 993 calipers with VCI adapters, over 928S4 discs. I can't use drilled sics because they'd be picked up at inspection right away.

George, flanges measure same:

As others said lower bolt hole is M14 on 993 and M12 o 964.

993 strut will fit in to 964 - it is a bit shorter

Also, everybody - can you please clarify. What ball joints and tie rods one should use with 993 uprights?

Thanks!
Oleg.

OK, next batch of questions:

-Can I re-use my steering tie-rods, if not what is a good solution
-Can I re-use the 964 ball joint (from A-arm to hub carrier)

From what I understand....
1. You will need the 993 tie-rods (993-347-031-03) for the standard 993 wheel carrier/upright; or 993RS tie-rods (993-347-031-81), which have harder rubber parts, for the 993RS (Evo) wheel carrier/upright.
2. You can re-use the 964 ball joint

Have your already removed the 964 hub from the 964 wheel carrier? If not, I would suggest loosening the 32mm nut before removing the wheel carrier and while the brakes are installed (so that you can have someone apply the brakes while loosening. Suggest 3/4" breaker bar/socket.

This is a very enlightening thread, Who would have guessed that the steel and alloy wheel carrier mounts are the same thickness, the report of their different thickness goes back a decade or more.

any who, the tie rods are 2 piece affairs, inner/outer afaik you want to use the 993 outer w/ 964 inner but I could easily be wrong about that

the thing I know for certain is that the 993RS outer cannot be used w/ either the 964 or 993 wheel carrier. The 993RS outer goes w/ the 993RS wheel carrier as part of a matched system. The 993RS wheel carrier is also used on 993GT2, 993GT2Evo & 993RSR, these latter 2 also use a monoball inner, while the 993 and 993RS use an inner w/ rubber bush(RS is a stiffer rubber)
