Putting a blanket over the back spoiler to block the air will get the car up to temp quick.

That is all.

One last addendum: Cruising around at "lowish" moderate speed with A.C. on will reduce warm-up time and raise oil level needle quicker too.

After 3 months of down time making repairs I am ready to add oil and start it up. I drained the oil cold. I removed the thermostat to replace some oil lines which did drain some oil from the lines going to the oil cooler. I let it set with the oil plugs out for quite a while and small amount of oil consentingly drained out. How much oil would you guys add at first to get it to a safe level to start the engine and get it up to operating temp ?

Remove the DME/fuel pump relay and crank the car a bit. It should register 1-2 bar oil pressure just from cranking over.

I always pour in 6 litres of oil, crank it until I see oil pressure, ( pull the DME relay), re install relay, start it up, and slowly add 2 more litres, go for a short drive or let it warm by fast idle, and then add the rest of the oil when thermostat is open. Check dipstick and oil gauge as you go along.

Remember that there are 2qts of oil left in crankcase after draining. So add 5qts, start-up and run to warm-up, then SLOWLY add 5 more qts. and hence, ending up with 12. If turbo, end up with 13+ qts.

Not true.
If you drain the oil tank and the crankcase with the thermostat open, the only oil left in the system is in the oil cooler. Mine takes 10.5 quarts after a hot oil change.
However, if you do a cold oil change, and the car has been sitting for a while, I have measured as much as 8 quarts draining from the case, the oil will migrate from the tank to the case over a period of time, that's why you hear the oil splashing into the tank after start up.

I just had my oil tank and thermostat out of the car for maintenance and ended up putting 11.5 quarts in it and my gauge runs about 3/8 up from the bottom after it is good and warmed up. My dipstick also has me a little bewildered. On one side it is plain to see that it is half way between the 2 notches and on the other side it is at the top notch. I'm gonna leave it as is. I think the PO had it overfilled when I bought it.

I usually start with 6 and then spend a looong time sloowly adding the other 3, or so.

7 sounds like a better start place.
