Default Windshield rust.

First of all, first post from an iPad. Let's see if it works.

So being in Seattle, and dealing with lots of rain and moisture, I noticed this the other day.

How extensive would the damage be? The previous owner said it was rescaled about a year ago. Probably not so truthful on that one.

Is there a way to help it without removing the glass itself?

Well looks like I can't post pictures from the iPad. Will get them tonight.

The windshield has to be removed. It costs me $900 to get mine fixed and reusing the old windshield.

I'm in this same boat. Damage cannot be assessed w/o removing the windshield, and from what I've seen the extent of rust found down there can vary significantly.

I'm holding off on this repair because of the risk of breaking the windshield during removal/reinstallation, which would basically double the cost of the repair. I don't feel like footing that potential bill.

Any chance that insurance would cover a new windshield due to a rock chip? I suspect these are pretty common in these cars.

The shop that did my car pulled my windshield out with no problem.

IF you need to replace the glass, you'll want to go with original glass and seals. The aftermarket ones don't fit as well as they should, leading to the rust problem you are now addressing. Sunset Porsche gave me a good price

I bit the bullet and had it done as part of some other work. It wasn't cheap, and the rust is much more invasive than it might look from the outside.
