Default Front blowers DIY

Just thought I'd share my experiences of digging out the front fresh air blowers to lubricate them (or if needed replace them)

Here's the link to part one where everything up to the extracting of the fans themselves are covered.

http://www.964c2.se/?p=167

I'll hopefully get time to write up part two this afternoon so I'll add that here
as soon as it's done.

Feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear.

Could this be the source of the intermittant squeaking that seems to come from the passenger side door or the glove box?

Thanks for the write up and your post!

I never removed my expansion tank when I took mine out. It's not a bad thing to do if you are changing servos.
What lube did you use? I've had great success with anti-seize aerosol. I've never had another squeak since lubing with it.

There is a whole area devoted to DIY here. You post in the submissions forum 1st where it gets vetted and then moved to a read-only area specific to the model. The 964 DIY is here.

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I am getting the famous squealing when turning to the right and want to try this, but have been hesitant to take this project on without a good writeup.

Looking forward to Part 2.

Great write up.
I would like to add, the more time you spend on reintroducing lubrication into these sintered bearings, the longer they will stay quiet. When I did mine, I found it took about 5 days of adding oil, before the bearings were saturated.

What type of oil did you use? How many bearings have to be lubricated? Where are they?

Thank you

I used regular 30w oil. There are 2 bearings on each fan motor, front and back.
I would stand the motor on end and put a few drop of oil on the shaft and let it soak in, then add some more until it was full (saturated), then turn it over and do the other end; as I mentioned earlier, it took at least a couple of days a side for the bearings to fill up. These sintered bearings are thirsty, they will hold a fair bit of oil.
