replacing front longitudnal lock seal finally success!!!
Hello there guys so i am going to replace the front transmission lock seal which is leaking.I would like to know if i remove the lock and pull the seal without draing the tranny will i get the tranny fluid come flying out at me?
And would a long 90 degree pic remove the seal ok or are they difficult to remove?

Sorry it is the longitudinal lock seal at the front of the trasnsmission beside the shifter shaft entering the trsansmission. It's held in by a key tab held with 10mm nut

You can remove the diff lock slave without draining the transmission. Not sure about the seal itself. I have never changed it. If I were you, I would have a jug of transmission gear oil standing by just in case you need to drain. If you get lucky, then you don't need the extra oil and can save it for a future service change.

yes that is the one mark.I just changed tranny oil this winter and haven't put much mileage on it but it does have a leak that i want to address just don't know if the new oil is going to come gushing out once i remove the seal.maybe i can jack the front end up and tilt tranny back so fluid is going back.Anyboby had to remove the seal before is it difficult to get out?

SOme good pictures showing both PDAS locks. You do NOT need to disconnect the hydraulic line to the cylinder, in fact i highly recommend keeping it intact unless you know someone with a Bosch hammer to bleed them! Just diconnect the plasticc clips that hold the hydraulic line to the tranny so that it has enough play in it to move out of the way once you get the key out.
Once you get the cylinder out you'll need a good seal puller to extract the old seal (I happen to have one... you can drop by and borrow it).
FWIW, when I did it a while back I can't remember if i HAD to drain the tranny fluid but i did anyways. I'm sure if you jack the front of the car up all the fluid will go to the back of the tranny and it shouldn't spill out the hole?
Oh, and don't look at the price of a new PDAS lock before you embark on this because then you won't want to go anywhere near it for fear you might damage it beyond repair

well here is an update.Got the car up on jack stands tilted backwards.removed the longitudinal lock and swung off to the side. When i went to remove the old seal i was amazed at it's condition torn in pieces which made for easy removal.I can now confirm you will get tranny fluid leak out as soon as seal is out. I then proceeded to install new seal and tried to use a 19mm socket which is a snug fit to inside of seal and tried pushin it in no way jose socket was just sliding into the seal.So i then tried a 15/16 socket and tried tapping it in from outside edge and managed to deform the new seal and tear it. So now i have to order new one tomorrow and try again.
However before i try again has anybody changed this seal if so what did you use to get it in properly?Should i have greased up outside edge of new seal so it slid in to position easier?

Not sure but I wanted to see what other people have used to seat the new seal in place or ideas of what to use. THanks for your suggestion dfinnegan the close quarters plus being on my back on creeper doesn't help either!
