OK here you go:
The part # is 999-053-042-06-M92
The #'s on the inner race are: 305988 D , E07. It is an SKF bearing made in Spain.
These are special "angular contact" bearings, not sure if you can buy them over the counter.

Hope this is of help to you.

The part number is actually just 999-053-042-06

"M92" is a Pelican-only suffix.

After doing a bit of searching on the bearing suppliers it would appear there is a slightly different code system to what` marked on the bearing.

SKF would appear to be the main supplier.

A thread on changing a 930 bearing through this code up

SKF BA2B309609AD the search on here brings up this bearing

http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/adv...s=ba2b309639ba

just trying to point out it is this type of similar code required to find the bearing.

Fuch thanks for your first post I will have a look at that thread, I have ignored your second post

One of the bearings is completely shagged so glad I found it now the other one not so bad however would be daft not to change it.

I thought my rear right wheel bearing was on its way out once as I could hear a hum/droning type sound when turning left (putting the right rear under load)..

turns out it was low power steering fluid!..

This listing suggests multiple cars for the same bearing including a wide range of 911 and BMW so the IB cars have the same rear bearing is that correct ?

and are these bearings 42x80x42

I just did this and detailed the process in my "C4 maintenance" thread.

Part numbers are listed here.

Make sure you try to buy a bearing that is German. For a while many of the bearings sourced from other countries were failing prematurely. Also, if the car sees the track, I clean out the factory grease and repack the bearings with a good quality grease like Mobil 1 wheel bearing grease.

Cheers, James

James,

I hear what your saying and I certainly dont want a cheap/inferior bearing however concern is the bearing listed below any different from the non OEM ones supplied from the usual Porsche specialists in the UK, massive difference in price

£25-£125 with above specialists anything from £50-£100

Hi Gary

Thanks for your enquiry.

I have searched the dimensions which I think are 42x80x42, please check.

305988-D in SKF at £123.40 each

But if these are the correct measurements I maybe able to offer an unmarked bearing, please follow the link:

309609 Double Row Wheel Bearing at £25.93 each

Gaz, it all depends. To avoid Porsche tax I just went right to the bearing Mfg. catalogue and made sure I purchased a bearing with the same ratings and specifications from my local bearing house. This seemed to be the best bet since I could go in there and have them pull out a bunch and I would go through the boxes and find the ones that were made in Germany and take those. So, as long as you make sure the specifications are identical, you should be fine.

This was after I had rear wheel bearing failures at every race weekend for 3 races in a row! My Dad and I got very good at changing them at the track, had it down to ~45min. per bearing.

I hope this makes sense.

Cheers, James
