I just bought the same Hankook summer tires Laker listed - Ventus V12 evo K110. Mine are in the 205/50/R17 255/40/R17 size and I also got the $80 rebate. Paid more per tire though. Tire got great reviews esp for being quiet (goofy name notwithstanding). The Potenza summer tires I had on before were very noisy.

Don't tryes need to be N rated for these cars?

I am currently on Bridgestones and am considering moving over to Pirelli for no other reason than just personal preference.

I noticed no one on this thread has really considered Pirelli or N rated? Am I missing something?

They don't have to be N rated but I stick to N rated for fear of giving the insurance company any excuse to wiggle out of a claim or indeed put my premium up if I declare them. And I only drive on the street so don't consider the more specialist track tyres.

I believe N rated just means that the tyres are certified to be of exactly the same compound of the tyres that Porsche have tested and approved. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are the best tyre out there. Just that they are consistently built to the same spec.

I had Pirelli PZeros before - I'd never have them again in the UK - for me they were good in the dry but really lost their grip in the wet. And with a daily driver in the UK, I was driving in the wet a lot!

I've now got Continental Sport Contact 2 N2, which are still a summer tyre but I find are better in the wet than the Pirellis and much better in the dry. Very pleased with them for year round daily street driving.

So, depends what your requirements are.

CarlskisWP...how are the Hankooks working out for you? Yes, they are quiet...I am interested in your opinion of the side wall strenth; does it feel soft or does it feel firm with little to no give? Thanks in advance!

^^^^^^
I also drive the V12's.. Just ordered my next set today. I am only getting the rears.

MHO:

The side walls are fine. I am running 285/30R18 and I dont think you can beat them for the price. Cost me $400 with shipping for the two.

Handling is very good. I AX and have had no complaints. Last week, even with them practically as slicks, still handled great. I got about 10-11k miles out of them, which is pretty good. That includes about 5-6 AX events, and 1 DE.

For the money.... Cant go wrong...

Just to clarify; I agree..."for the money", the V12's are a nice option...what I would like to know is...if you put this tire side by side with other tires, would you feel a difference in performance and would you still choose the V12's; money aside? Has anyone had the opportunity to drive the V12 then drive a PS2 or comparable tire back to back? Thanks much!

pulling the trigger on some hankooks V12s very soon. I have to replace 1 tire post-crash anyway, and the tires on the car now are just about done anyway.

Another happy customer of the Extreme Contact DWs.
Good grip, quiet and comfortable to drive with. That's from handling feel level.

I would put the Contis on the same level as Michelin PS2... for now at least.

The Bridgestone SO2 s that I had previously wanted to tramline for the sake of tramlining. It was never comfortable to drive. Good grip, but that was the only thing that was good about them besides the look of the thread.

I'm in the market for new tires too. After doing my research here I'm going with Conti Extreme DW's.

+1 on the Yokohama S-Drives. Reasonable price and perform just fine for "spirited driving" in the mostly dry with some heavy rain conditions here in BC.

Cheers!

For what it's worth, here's what Porsche recommended for their "classic" vehicles back in 2008...
