17 inch Tire choices
The tires on my 91 C4 are about done. Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 205/50/R17 front 255/40/R17 rear. Only driven the car about 4000 miles, they seem decent. According to TireRack these tires are NLA unless you want a run-flat version. So... I have to find an alternative.
Thus far I have narrowed the search down to Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 , Bridgestone Potenza S02A or RE11s.
The car is driven primarily on mountain roads, hot-laps to the coast &
points in-between. I need a 80% dry summer tire that will see some torrential rain driving & no snow.
What are you 964 drivers with 17's running for tires ???

I put on the Continential ExtremeContact DW recently and have been very pleased with them. They are similar to the Micheline PS2, but about 1/2 the price.

Speaking of price and summer only, I am liking my:
225/45ZR17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 $97.00 ea
255/40ZR17 Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 $112.00 ea
at the time there was an $80 Visa gift card rebate..... worked out to $85 a tire, and they handle very well...... Not world class track tires mind you, but amazing for the price. 280 treadlife rating, just had to give them a try, since I wasn't sure I wanted a summer-only.

I am also getting new shoes and pretty much settled on the Conti DW.
I looked at the Dunlop Direzza, and I like Dunlops and had a set of SP2, which they don't make anymore, but the current Dunlop: they don't get great reviews and everyone I talked say the Contis are much much better.
I know Michliens are about the best out their but they aways seem to last about 5 seconds, and they are HUGE $, and I didn't like my Pilots in the wet. The Dunlops were better in the rain.
So like I said I think I am settled on the Conti DW.
Some have spoken highly of the Hankooks, but something just seems wrong about having Hankooks on a Porsche.
Oh and the Potenzas, if it gets anywhere down around frezzing they will try and kill you.

you are right, but I got over it. was trying to see if I could deal with summer tires on clear winter days, without blowing a huge amount of cash. Was very pleasantly surprised

The guy at the tire store was trying me on really hard for the Hankooks and even thought about it for a second but just a second. I am struggling with the Continental brand name LOL, the were reviewed and rated so much better than some of my other considerations.

One thing that's good to keep in mind is that a Conti DW or Michelin PS2 comparison to a Hankook RS3 or Dunlop Star Spec, is really an apples to oranges comparison. The star specs and RS3's are about maximum grip, almost singularly. They're essentially cheater tires for autocross and track days so they're going to be louder, wear quicker, but be much stickier. The upside is that they're also cheaper so trying them out doesn't cost a mint.

Its the first Continental that I've really liked and have recommended/sold them to others. They are going on my VW when I need tires.
