Default Yokohama A048? Yes/No? Maybe?

I have 2 A048 rear tires which are 295/30-18, both are brand new. They came on my rims.

The front tires were something else, but got shredded by my fenders since I didn't roll the fenders in time. Now I need to get a new set of 255/35-18 tires for the front.

Should I go for A048 for the front as well? Get something different? or sell the rears and get a completely different set of tires?

The car is 80% street, but I drive it pretty hard.

From the few weeks of driving on A048s I found that they are VERY loud, I thought my wheel bearings were gone, but turned out to be my tires.

For "pretty hard" street use I would put the 295's on the front and get 335's for the rear...

...no seriously what's your reason for going with 255's and 295's ?!

Personally I wouldn't get anything over 235's and 265's on 18"s but then again my engine is stock you must be making at least 5-600 maybe 700 bhp or more ???

Sorry don't mean to be rude but I just don't understand.

Very valid point, it is too much tire for the car. I agree. I don't have any significant engine mods either.

I bought the wheels used with these tires. Since I have them already, I wanted to get a front set to match, I could go down to a 235 in the front without any issues - which is actually a good idea.

If I were to get a brand new set (all 4), I'd opt for something narrower for sure.

tyres are so subjective.

obviously .....
high grip = high price = high noise = high wear
low grip = low price = maybe low noise = low wear

very subjective and really up to ....... i think you need to ask a more specific question for any meaningful help.

wow .... 255 up front. amazing.

Dang that rear tire is the same size on my 996TT. How could they fit without rubbing?

They fit just fine.

The front was rubbing a bit, but the front fenders are now rolled to avoid destroying another set of tires.

You're right, this is very subjective. I'll just go with what I think is best, thanks for the replies!

nice car. looks great although i like the standard rear reflector and the silver bits on the wheels would look better if blacked out ... with those tweaks ... awesome!

Actually, the rear reflector is going to be carbon fiber for this upcoming season and I'm doing custom rear-lights (i'll document it all).

The wheels are being refinished in satin black, and all the hardware will be chrome (previous owner painted over everything).

I use the A048's for street driving, same size as yours and they get the job done with no rubbing. I suspect there was some work done on your car to get the 295's to fit.

I would stay with what you have just based on how you like to drive the car. The attached picture is with Hoosier in the same size and no rubbing.

cornerhans, what wheels are you running? Are your fenders rolled to fit 295's?

Fikse five spoke, and sort of. I had Greg Fordahl in Bellevue WA do the build so he would posess the fender info. I know more went into it than rolling the lip and that a metal/paint craftsman gave some love to it.

You have a great looking car!!

Actually, the rear doesn't need any adjustments. All I did really was make sure one of the hardlines is tucked out of the way, so I secured it with zipties.

My rear wheel is 11.5" wide, the offset was for a Turbo so I just put a 20mm spacer on it to make it fit.

The front has plenty of room, but the offset is rather low so my tire would rub on the inner fender lip. In fact, there is a little piece of metal that sticks out there and it pretty much just sliced the tires that came with the wheels.
