Default Carpet Padding Replacement?

Planning to replace my carpet and based on all of the carpet installs I found here, I still don't have a good idea on what I should use for the padding. How much of a difference is it going to be if I go to Home Depot and buy carpet padding versus sound deadening material? And, does this stuff really work in a 964?

Go to a regular car parts store. They have standard sheets of SD foam in different thickness's. Works just fine and easy to cut and glue.

Thanks Thomas of the suggestion. I know edead and Dynamat have been used on some of the carpet installs I found on Rennlist. I am going to check out the local auto stereo install stores to see what they sell.
