Öhlins / Ohlins set up for the 964
I would like to hear from drivers with hands on experience of running Ohlins on 964. Doesn´t seem to be that many… if anyone at all? Since all suspension are custom I am trying to figure out how I would like my system configured and set up. When talking to the supplier they suggested not a 2 way but rebound only. Also looking at spring rates and other parts to upgrade to make the most out of the new suspension; uniballs, spring plates etc. Any thoughts?

What specifically would you like to know about the Ohlins shocks? Spring rates vary by driver skill, preference, and track. You can make many combinations work. Is this for a track only car, or street/track, or street only car? Why Ohlins over other brands?

I have Ohlins DFV for my Miata and really like them. I'm not sure I'd feel as comfortable using aluminum struts (if they even make them), but the aluminum shocks are very light in that other application.

I will use linear springs but have not decided on spring rates yet. I need to weigh the car first after this winter´s mods but it should be at around 1230 - 1250 kg including 1/2 tank. I am not looking to stiffen the suspension as much as it gets but rather looking to maximize traction and tire contact. That´s why I am considering Öhlins in the first place. They recommended me a rebound only shock, rather surprisingly, because every pro race tech and engineer I´ve talked to strongly recommends 2 way. Would also be interesting to hear what sway bar dimensions Öhlins 964 drivers use.

Hi, since this is my first post on Rennlist I guess a short intro is mandatory. Bought my first Porsche in 2004 which was a black Euro RS. In 2009 a modified Euro Cup was for sale so I decided to sell the RS a go for the more track oriented Cup car.
The cup is a WB and 3.8l converted -91 Cup car with 33000 km seen on the image below.
I have since 2006 been a Öhlins employee and have since 2007 been running Öhlins shocks on my 964.
In the front I'm running pof1702 which were developed for the 993 but are pretty much bolt-on on the 964. I just had two camber plates made for the top mounts.
In the rear I designed custom top mounts and use four-way adjustable dampers.
Currently running 120 N/mm springs in the front and 150 N/mm in the rear. Standard cup (RS) front and rear sway bars works for me.
With this setup the car is fairly track oriented and can handle the grip level of used carrera cup slicks. However when the dampers were mounted on the RS there was a definitive improvement in both comfort and handling compared to the original bilstein setup so for me it's a good setup.

Hi David, great answer! That´s a really really really nice car you have there... beautiful! Looks like the photo was taken at Karlskoga Motorstadion! Would love to see your car IRL.

Welcome David!
I'm glad the "Öhlins" question caused you to post.
I would LOVE to show up on a track day with that car, just stunning!
