Default Exhaust/oil smell in cabin

Hi,

new Porsche 964 owner here!

I've done a few miles in the car now, but after I get out my clothes stink of exhaust/burnt oil smell. The car has no oil leaks & drops no oil on the floor.

I drove 300 miles with the heater on & didn't die from carbon monoxide poisoning or had a headache, so any ideas what it could be or what I should check?

many thanks in advance.

Ahhh ... the Porsche smell. Based on my experience, this normal for air/oil cooled Porsches. My 964 has that oily sort of aroma just like my former 914.

??? That means there's something wrong???
I call that the afterglow of a "Porsche date".
My wife smells it on me and gets jealous.

if excessive, could be oil drops on a muffler... take a very close look at the topside of all exhaust components that you can see, for burnt oil spots...

Oil drips off the engine and gets absorbed by the couplers on the heat exchangers and into the heat exchanger components. This causes all the warm air blown into the cabin to have a hot oil aroma.

"Well weathered leather, hot metal and oil,
the scent of country air.
Sunlight on chrome, the blur of the landscape,
every nerve aware..."

Even though they're singing about a red barchetta, I always think of that while driving the 964!

Thanks for that, made me chuckle. I'll check the exhaust couplers. I forgot to say the car is running a decat pipe, if that makes any difference. Total 911 noob, but Rennlist is my saviour!

here is a picture of my new love:

When my power steering drive seal was leaking, I had that smell. The oil drips right onto the heat exchanger.
There may be other sources but check that first.

Car looks great - congrats.

Also check the flexible (often orange) hoses that run from the heat exchangers to the flapper boxes - holes or tears can direct more smell etc. into the cabin.

Marc
p.s. Just noticed - the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

What Metal Guru said. Mine had this smell of oil/burning oil in the cabin, especially under hard acceleration and it was the power steering pump drive seal that was leaking oil right into the heat exchanger. The strange thing was, no oil drips under the car.
I just added a picture of what you are looking at; part # 5 & 6 are the culprits.

Its recently had the Power Steering pump oil seal renewed, perhaps its residual oil?
