Default tire selection

Got up this morning to find a flat on my rear tire. After putting it on the lift I found a roofing nail about 1" from the sidewall. Not repairable I dont think that close to the side wall. I have Yoko ES100 on there now that are about 6 years old but have 70% or so tread left. Of course they are discontinued.
I use the car for normal (well normal for a Porsche) driving and occasional autocross so thinking of getting either Hankook V12 Evo K110 or Sumitomo HTR Z III. Any thoughts?
If anybody local needs the Yoko's I can save them. If not they go on Craigslist. I wont ship tho.

I got this plugged (not patched) and it loses a bit of air, but it's still good.

I've been out autocrossing on it twice since the plug. It isn't optimal, but those PS2s are old as heck, discontinued, and need replacing sooner than later. I'll probably go Hankook RS3 like I run on my Toyota daily driver.

^Noted: the screwdriver was for demonstration purposes. A nail caused the puncture. Looking at the angle of entry, I'm guessing I was sliding the rear when I picked it up.

these have very bad reviews on other sites I read for noise and fast wear.

mine is about a inch from the edge. I may just plug it and take a little bit of time to look for new tires.

I can't say much about the noise because my exhaust is not stock. As for wear, I read that too. If you are looking to keep your tires the 18 years your previous set was looking at before the nail then they probably wouldn't be the right choice.

I plan on getting at least 20 years on the tires on the turbo

I had those Dunlops on my Toyota before I got the RS3s. They are very noisy. When I first installed them I thought they were rubbing when cornering, lol. They grip like mad tho. I was able to get 17k miles out of them, including about 8 autocross events, on a 2800lb FWD Toyota w/ 180hp and zero torque that is historically been very kind to tires. My buddy w/ an e36 M3 would get about 8k miles out of them w/ very aggressive street driving, running up to 3 degrees negative camber.

Keeping a tire for 6yrs isn't really a good idea anyway, so for a car that isn't driven much (sounds like your situation), might as well get a tire that wears fast and grips like mad than a tire that wears slow, doesn't grip as well, and dryrots in your garage before reaching the wear bars.

grip is proportional to rubber hardness.

if you prefer low grip & 40,000miles, then buy some chinese tires with 400+ treadwear rating.

This was my line of thinking when I bought them. I run my car about 3.5K per year so these should be good for 3-4 years. By then the rubber will start hardening up so they'd have to go anyway.

I typically buy Michelin tires and have heard good things about the new Super Sports.

Wink Tires?

I have had my Michelin SUper Sports about 6 mos. now and they are great. For the most part quiet, great grip, and seem to be wearing exceptionally well.... and no affiliation.

Hankook RS3 is cheaper than the Dunlop Star Spec and both are probably way cheaper than the Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
