I for one am exceedingly thankful Butzi fought off other designers at Porsche, and preserved the classic 911 looks for the 964, and even enhanced it ! Merry Christmas Butzi, wherever you are.

Where is the history of the 964 development best documented?

Several books available Ricardo. Need to pick up bits here and there (and also be a little wary of misinformation). Seek and ye shall indeed find. CHEERS.

FWIW, I just found that Porsche Allrad book on Amazon. Most copies are used, but I got a "like new" one for $16 shipped.
ETA- thanks for the link to that book; I had no idea it even existed and as part of my attraction to the 964C4 is it's awesome geekiness I can't way to pore over it and memorize trivial facts which are useless in everyday life.

I agree with the OP - I cross-shopped the later cars and found that the classic silhouette and view from inside just wasn't there after the 964. The 993 is a beautiful car, but I just appreciate the 964 'experience' more.
In my opinion - one aspect of the looks that was enhanced from the SC is the ability to have both a working spoiler at speed and no spoiler at all at rest - another was the driving lights that didn't look like an afterthought, and a third are the aero mirrors on the 92+ cars.
As a side note - I love both the pictures above - wish that those changes had been made as per the pics!
