Default Better to negotiate price before or after PPI?

Wondering if it is better to negotiate the best price you can and then have that price contingent on the PPI or do the PPl first and then negotiate? what do you guys think?

Default 1 for after

Before you pay for a PPI make sure that you are close to what you want to pay, then try to subtract the cost to correct the problems found on the PPI.

The logistics of my purchase worked out such that I agreed on a price with a known set of issues on the car, then had the PPI done when I arrived and price adjusted from there for new items. (AC did not work) However I would rather have PPI done first then talk price. I am trying for that on my next purchase

I set a price before PPI, and agreed that anything non-consumable in the PPI would be deducted from the price. In the end it was a coupla grand chopped off the price.

....being a 964, there's gotta be *something* wrong, broken or leaking

I would do it like buying a house.. negotiate the best price you can, pending the PPI, then depending on what you find, negotiate from there after the results are in.

IMHO, maintenance items (brakes, tires etc) are on the buyer... and stuff that should have been taken care of (suspension, engine) are on the seller... but that's a rough rule of thumb.

Always better to negotiate the 'best' price you can pending the PPI, then if there are any negative results on the PPI, it's additional leverage for the buyer.

+ 1. As with a house.
The price is based on what the owner says
- what turns up on the PPI

What they said. Why would you even consider the expense of a PPI unless you were already in the ballpark on price?

When I got mine the price was already ballpark, so I didn't negotiate till after the PPI and got them down $1k for some of the findings.

Other cars I called about needed to come down like a few thousand before I'd even consider a PPI. When the seller would start w/ their "firm price" noise, I'd peace out of the conversation.

It was usually the case dealer sellers and the cars were love it or hate it color combos. My opinion was always the latter.

The best part was then I'd see them relisted a couple months later, now stale on the market and w/ an asking price that mirrored where I was trying to get to months earlier.
