Default Brake job going down the slippery slope

Good evening all,...

A couple of weekends ago I decided to initiate a simple brake job:
Pads / resurface rotors / rebuilt caliper

After removing the brake lines, the calipers and the rotors, I quickly realized that this job would take more than I bargan for. The hard lines were completely seized and the end of the soft lines were all corroded. I have order several new parts from PP and from Porsche as well. What I though would be a simple walk in the park is starting to look like a Winter long project.

Here how it all started,...

After removing everything I thought could use new parts, I was left with this,...

So, at this point what I have managed to accomplish is the caliper rebuilt with the kit, wash and strip, and repaint.

While the A-arm were out I also took advantage to remove the old bushing and put the Walrod set, fairely easy job if you have a torch.

A brake job that turns into a suspension rebuild, is the very definition of slippery-slope

Any suggestion of suspension mods,... should I replace with same type struts and springs?

I do about 8-10 autocross sessions every year, other than that it's street driving on the weekends with the Miss'.

Yup - my hard lines were seized up solid too so I had to replace them too....gotta love 20 year old parts, eh?

What colour are the calipers to be - please tell me it is not that violet colour on the box!

Stephane,

I just sent you the $$$ for the Cup 1's via Paypal so now you have money to pay for all of this stuff!

I found the easiest way to get the rubber brake lines off was to cut them so they could
freely turn as you crank on the nuts.

Jim, did the same,... after turning the nut from the hard line, and seeing the line twisting, I just used a pair of wire cutter to get it over with.

Calipers are done,.. in RED not mauve,... , all I need is the OEM Porsche high temp decals which I ordered from Suncoast. I have tried the stencil, and the white paint I used did not adhere to the red of the caliper. Came right off when I peeled the stencil off.

Stephane -
Been down the same road you are going - lot of effort but well worth it -
What are you doing to the rear - make sure you check your boot =carefully as they tend to crack on the inner fold whih makes the crack hard to see.
See - https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/665884-suspension-options-for-early-build-964-a.html
Let me know how you like the OZ's as I am looking to go that route.

Thanks Gus for the advice. I have already removed all of the suspension bits front and back and still looking for a viable and reasonably priced option.

1) Bilstein HD = $1100
2) H&R Coilover = $1800
3) KW V1 coilover = $2200
4) KW V3 coilover = $2700
5) PSS10 coilover = $2950
Option 1,2,3 doesn't offer adjustability but are priced better than 4 and 5.

Since I was planning on buying another 964 just for Autocross/track to toy around, I may just abandon that idea and put all of my budjet into a nice sorted out street/track car,.,..

What do you all think,.. I am always affraid that if I go down the compromise road I will always do thing half way,..

Thanks

Zero in on two choices.
IMHO pick 1 or 4. What can you afford right now? #4 will be better all around except price.

Great thread btw
